I'm on a 3.2 U Wii and when ever I try to run any version of Gecko OS higher than 1.07b it will not load all I get is a solid black screen. I have no gamecube memory cards. I have no idea what the hell I am doing.

I have the exact same problem man, except im on 4.0

1.07 versions work without a hitch, then the later versions do not work at all =\

My homebrew channel is the latest too.

Its so not cool :( I got this wicked background I wanna try out.

Things to try:

  • Reinstall/downgrade IOS36
  • Redownload and recopy Gecko 1.9.0.1 to your SD card (maybe it got corrupted?)
  • Try using a different SD card
  • Unplug any USB devices, GC controllers, and GC memory cards
  • Restart your Wii and try loading Gecko again (llbogc is buggy sometimes, maybe you are just unlucky and it will work if you try several times)
Even for me Gecko does not start (gets stuck at a black screen) about 5% of the time, but it seems that this problem is probably due to a bug in libogc. :(

thankyou brkirch!!! I simply reinstalled cIOS36 rev10 through the network install option, and the .elf is working great! :)

YippySkippy, just do the same thing i did, and hopefully you will get the same result :D

EDIT: with further testing i have determined the problem to be from the background image you are trying to use... try loading it WITHOUT the background image and see if it works...

I was trying to use one of the backgrounds found here: http://nintenskinz.tehskeen.com/gallery/view.php?cat=Gecko_OS_Backgrounds

and that was why it wasnt working for me, NOT the cIOS reason i had posted b4 this edit.

YET ANOTHER EDIT: OK... I got gecko to work with the background image...

First Step... Redownload the background image BUT make sure you actually download the ZIP file under the picture and not go "save as -> background.png"

Second Step... Instead of putting the background image directly in the root of your SD card, do this: "SD card root" -> "data" -> "gecko" -> "background.png"

Third step... Boot gecko and you should be good to go! :D

Ok I think I really fucked something up. I can't do anything anymore on the homebrew channel. None of my apps will work. I didn't even install anything. I went to install the IOS36 i get a balck screen with a whole bunch of text "Exception (DSI) Occurred!" then a whole lot of numbers. I formatted my card, tried a different card, tried different apps even the old Gecko OS doesn't work anymore, its always the same black screen with numbers and shit.

I'm a little upset today

hah, you are lucky you have a black screen, whenever i load any wii game it just stays in the geko menu and doesn't budge, it seems the developers of geko are not bothered about fixing it either.

I can't fix a problem if I can't reproduce it and no one reports it.  Make sure you don't have "Gecko Pause Start" on because that would result in the exact problem you are describing (pause start is there for using WiiRD to read and write to RAM after the game has loaded but before it starts; if you don't use WiiRD then just keep it off)

i have reported the bug in the announcement forums in both 1.9 and 1.8 topics and it was ignored, i will have a look at this pause menu thing and see if that fixes the problem.

edit: it's off by default, so it can't be the problem.

If it is only happening for one game or specific games then it is a different problem.  Sounds like you may need to reinstall some of the IOS on your Wii as that would explain both the nunchuk problem and this one. (are you using cIOScorp or anything like that?)

I'm having the same problem with my Super Mario Galaxy, and when I reboot with hooks it wants me to update, and Ocarina and Gecko OS 1.8 just bring me to a blank screen. I don't know what to do. The only IOS I used was the one for the custom Wii menu and the one to run backups for Guitar Hero customs and such. I only have two codes on, so I don't think it's that I have too many codes.
