Can't get Laptop to talk to USB Gecko.

if i use wiird tool it just loops around
>game status
error sending command
resetting usb device driver!
connection resetting!

If i use one of the tools such as the dvdtool i get
error sending extract dvd command.

I have a laptop with vista on it and have installed the latest drivers correctly i think 2.4.6 but it only shows some usbserialconverter device nothing else.....should i be seeing a gecko type device in there?

I'm done...been trawling around the web for days finding guides that are not a-z or not for my setup....

I have a modded wii with d2pro and usbgecko.

I have homebrew channel installed and have played homebrew games.

I have the gecko os displayed on screen when i'm trying to launch the pc tools but nothing happens.

I get a connected status ok but nothing else.

Anyone want to help?

Man, this  is one weird coincidence.  You posted what I just signed up to say.

Can't get Laptop to talk to USB Gecko.

If i use one of the tools such as the geckodvd.exe I get
error sending extract dvd command.(Trying to dump game to laptop)

No status bar and no action in the drive.

I hope some kindsoul picks up the ball and helps us out Magic8.

It looks like I'm connected but the Wii can't receive the command from the software for some reason.  Plugged into port A.

Magic8Ball

had the tv turned on for so long i've just turned it off and seem to have suffered some image burn from the gecko os menu screen.

Dam, i hope that fades quickly, if not my plasma is toast.

Thought modern plasma's didn't suffer from screen burn thats why i put the wii in the front room rather than have the kids fight between xbox and wii time.

Feel sick if that burn is there permanent.....a $3k backup of wii sports....ouch.

The USB Gecko has to be Plugged into USB Slot B. If its connected correctly, when you load Gecko OS, there will be a green gecko icon shown in the bottom left corner of the screen.
0xFFFFFFuuuuuuu

Magic8Ball

Go figure...

I go back to check for the green gecko icon and turn on the laptop/wii again.

There is a green gecko icon.

I open up wiird and the error isn't there...

I load geckodvd and it still doesnt work.

I load geckomusic and it uploads an mp3 file....

So, it looks like leaving it alone for a couple of hours makes it behave a bit better....

Still can't get geckodvd to rip the wiisports backup, am i missing something? do i need a particular version of geckodvd to get this working....

Comeon guys, we are close....one frustrated newbie about to dissapear...

Magic8Ball

Yep, found some other post and downloaded the files in that.

The geckodvd.exe was slightly different and it had checksum options but still doesn't work.

I've basically got most things working other than the geckodvd.exe will only say error sending extract dvd command.

Any ideas...

Magic8Ball

Found the post on wii rip and the wad file install and things seem to be happening.....

Is that the way to go?  or should the gecko os menu thing also work....

Man this is crying out for a good guide A B C style....blown an entire sunday on this.

To extract a wii or GameCube game you need to be in GameCube mode
This is the Guide for it.
Extracting DVD Media to PC using Gecko OS (Gamecube Version or GC Mode on Wii)

Info on Wii USB Gecko Ripper v1.0  By MonkeyKF this extracts in wii mode.
I see you have a modded wii with d2pro some peopel where having problems with extracting in GameCube mode.To do with the d2pro chip so the best way i see for you is  Wii USB Gecko Ripper v1.0  By MonkeyKF.
I hope this helpt you. Good luck and welcome to the usbgecko site.:)

Quinton999

Got it working!

Thanks Nuke for pointing out port B.  I was sure it was port A, which gives me the can't send command error and when I had tried B it was crashing out even sooner.

What I did different was to install the vcredist_x86.exe package.  Port A didn't give the green gecko on the screen but port B did after installing this package.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Not really, the first link is for a none chipped wii by the looks of it.

Not sure what you mean by gamecube mode or wii mode....i'm not intentially changing modes between anything....do you mean plugged into port a / b or trying to use the different dvd modes in the geckodvd to extract stuff.

I basically want to extract wii games for backup, don't care about any gamecube mode stuff..

The monkey thing seems to be working, about 3/4 of the way through....but would like to use the plain tools of gecko os

where's the link to that package and what did you do with it?

Are you now at the stage where you can use the gecko os to extract a dvd?

Quinton999

In the downloads section near the bottom under Note

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9B2DA534-3E03-4391-8A4D-074B9F2BC1BF&displaylang=en

Just execute it and it installs visual c++ libraries which geckodvd requires.

Yes I can now extract DVDs.
