Gecko OS without USB Gecko

I was under the impression that you needed a USB Gecko for Gecko OS to run/work/do anything, but upon reading the documentation for the new version of Gecko OS apparently this is not so.

Exactly what can you do with Gecko OS without the benefit of a USB Gecko (which I am sooooo getting sometime)?

You only need the USBGecko for the more advanced stuff like WiiRD (real time cheat engine, ocarina's predecessor) and communicating with your PC for different reasons.
