Title: Gecko 1.9.3RC
Post by: Link on October 04, 2009, 02:44:54 PM
brkirch released a RC of Gecko 1.9.3:

Quote
I have made some small modifications and fixes to the Gecko OS code, if you have System Menu 4.2 then please try this and let me know if there are any issues:
Gecko 1.9.3 RC (http://files.me.com/brkirch/0wly5k)

Old post by me:

Quote
Well.. after the most recent changes.. this is Gecko 1.9.2b - I added the b simply because it is no real new version.. more-so an SVN based bugfix version thanks to changes in System Menu 4.2

What's new:
Quote
Gecko 1.9.2b (r13)
-------------
What's New:

Link edits:
-cIOS use temporarily disabled - System Menu 4.2 ships with IOS249 stubs which make Gecko OS crash
--> workaround: try to get an old IOS35 or 36 using Dop_IOS
-homebrew channel ID changed from HAXX to JODI (HBC 1.05)
-widescreen and alpha channel backgrounds possible

Brkirch edits:
-Fix code for loading dol/elf files
-Change 002 error prevention method for channels
-Add the selected hook to the channel patcher
-Added workaround for ES_Identify issues in newer IOS revisions

Hi, Great update, but how come you took off adding codes to wii ware games?  I've been spending hours the last couple of days trying to get megaman 9 to work again?  so yeah? Any chance i will be able to apply codes to wiiware codes again?  not trying to complain or anything just a little anxious

Umm.. that wasn't done by me... I removed IOS249 support - what exactly is happening over there?
WiiWare and VC support should be in as long as you have a trucha compatible IOS35 or IOS36!

You do not have the "Load Channels" menu? That means your IOS is unable to hook to channels.. if you used a cIOS before to do that.. cIOS support has been disabled in that relase, as cIOS loading crashes it on 4.2!

I'm a little autistic so you'll have to expain with this CIos does, i have tried to put a couple of those things on, i believe it was the 36, tried to open it nothing.  And I do have 4.2 System firmware, your saying there's absolutly no way i can put codes on wiiware games now? as in, i gotta save up and get a earlier wii?

cIOS normally gets installed if you prepare your Wii for playing backups. Or if you try to play DVDs on the Wii. Nothing too bad about it. Just cIOS use is killed with Wii System Menu 4.2 . What you can try though:

get http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Dop-IOS

If it can work on your Wii which is probably unlikely thanks to 4.2 - use it to download IOS36 version 1020 (old version). That one will allow you to play VC and WiiWare games!

So this version is compatible with 4.2e and do the sd cheats still work.(for wii games).

Yes!

I can only assume that Dop-IOS also uses IOS249 to install IOSes.. IOS249 was simply destroyed by 4.2 so as of now you're out of luck. Reenabling cIOS support in Gecko 1.9.2 would also make it go black screen for you!

Dop-IOS mod lets you choose wich IOS it uses IIRC.

Ah, a new revision to 1.9.2 is out. I'll give this a try. Similar to Themissinglink, I was unable to get Load Channel to show up when I ran anything except 1.9.0.1, so I'll see if this helps me. Because I'm getting "Error Loading Channel" even though I have a 1st gen Wii and it only went to 4.0. I've run the Truch Restorer, as well, so we'll see if this works.

Title: Re: Gecko 1.9.2b
Post by: WiiPower on October 05, 2009, 06:21:57 AM
On Gecko 1.9.2b, your IOS36(not IOS35) has to allow you to do ES_Idenitfy, which only IOS36v1042(which does not work on new Wiis!) and a patched IOS36 do. If you are able to patch your IOS36, you can just install a cIOS and continue using the regular Gecko OS versions.

Or to put it more clearly: If you want Ocarina on VC/WiiWare, get a cIOS and use the old versions. If you only want disc games, this version is for you.

Title: Re: Gecko 1.9.2b
Post by: Hiroshi Mishima on October 05, 2009, 10:50:53 AM
Actually, last time I tried Ocarina it didn't give me Load Channel options either, like Gecko 1.9.2. However, Gecko 1.9.2b DID give me Load Channel, and it actually worked... except when I went to try using Megaman9 (with or without codes) it would go to some error screen that mentioned dumps. I'll have to see if I can try Ocarina again after I patched cIOS the other day.

This stuff can get really confusing with having to go back and forth between versions, but I'm slowly making sense of it.

Title: Re: Gecko 1.9.2b
Post by: WiiPower on October 05, 2009, 01:08:42 PM
The app Ocarina won't do anything. Gecko OS uses IOS249 since version 1.9.2 to identify the disc, the rebooter and channel loading. If you have updated to 4.2, IOS249 is stub(not working) IOS ==> Gecko OS won't work at all.

If there's no IOS249, or you use an old version, Gecko OS uses IOS36 for this stuff. Loading disc games  always works, rebooter and channel loading only work when the used IOS(249 or 36) supports ES_Identify.

So far about the general problems that can occur, but sadly there are more. Gecko OS svn has some problems with disc loading(at least the version i compiled). Gecko OS 1.9.1 & 1.9.2 have some trouble loading channels and the rebooter, if a patched IOS36 or a cIOS is used. (Gecko OS 1.9.1 + IOS36v1042 works fine, but IOS36v1042 does not work on all Wiis)

To summarize, there has to be an update already to fix all this mess. I would suggest to create an option "Use IOSx to identify discs, channel loading and rebooter", with x=36 as default. And a note in Gecko OS itself about why channel loading is not available/does not work, would be very nice.

Title: Re: Gecko 1.9.2b

Or to put it more clearly: If you want Ocarina on VC/WiiWare, get a cIOS and use the old versions. If you only want disc games, this version is for you.

Just as a correction.. I do not know why brkirch added it but this version WILL attempt loading IOS35

Code:
void loadStartupIOS()
{
if (!startupiosloaded)
{
sdio_Shutdown();
if (IOS_GetVersion() != 36) IOS_ReloadIOS(36);
detectIOScapabilities();

//if (!identifyworks && IOS_ReloadIOS(249) >= 0)
// detectIOScapabilities();

if (!identifyworks && IOS_ReloadIOS(35) >= 0)
detectIOScapabilities();

if (!identifyworks)
{
IOS_ReloadIOS(36);
disableRebooter = 1;
}

sd_init();
startupiosloaded = 1;
}
}

As you can see all I did was deactivating IOS249 - if people use a modified IOS36 then yes, they can use it to install IOS249 again - and use an old Gecko OS.. this version is mainly for users who have System Menu 4.2 - if people really want it: I can make a build of that version which will use IOS249! If people want it: no problem by me, basically I only need to uncomment two lines and recompile.

I for myself admittedly have a Wii with old IOS36 but as WiiPower said old IOS36 does not work on LU64+ Wiis so you might give a patched IOS36 a try (btw: if you have a patched IOS36 and cIOS you can still use this version - Gecko 1.9.2b will not attempt to use IOS249 if IOS36 is usable for it)

No, due to technical changes to prevent 002 errors a PROPER way (rather than patching the game) the disc spins up twice: spin up 1: reading of required IOS.. switching.. spin-up two: actually reading the disc.. sorry, without removing our current error 002 patch a change of that behavior is not possible!

I tested several games though I must admit, I haven't tested Mario Galaxy as I borrowed my copy to a friend. I'll get it tomorrow to check if there are faults.. basically I guess you also just got libpng for Wii and then compiled about DevKitPPC because that's what I did. I tested some games I knew working with 1.9.2 regular and they all worked.

I have made some small modifications and fixes to the Gecko OS code, if you have System Menu 4.2 then please try this and let me know if there are any issues:

The second disc spin-up has been removed from the Gecko OS code at this point because I found that it was actually unnecessary.

If the 1.9.2b build of Gecko OS was created using a newer version of devkitpro then that is probably why (I've found that versions of devkitpro from the last few months create unstable builds of Gecko OS which often crash when fclose is called), try using the Gecko 1.9.3 RC build found at the top of this post.

It shows the pictures of the channels.
Its open sourced so maybe you could take a look and try to implement that into Gecko?
That would be awesome.

I get a "Exception (DSI) occurred!" error when trying to load a game using this.
This is what I get whenever I try to load up Megaman 9 in 1.9.2b. However, Brawl still works fine, though I haven't tested much else.

So far, I've encountered a lotta problems trying to get the channels to load for me in Gecko. 1.9.0.1 was (until 1.9.2b) the only OS I could get to display Load Channel, but that keeps giving me "Error Loading Channel" messages. OS 1.9.2b actually tries to load it then gives me the Exception message with State and Code Dump messages underneath.

I'll try the new 1.9.3 and see what happens.

Which one do you mean? The banner fork which has great problems to display any pictures at all, but loads them from the VC/Wiire itself? Or the GUI mod that loads pictures from sd card?

I think the more interesting feature that could be copied from TriiForce to Gecko OS is the fact that TriiForce can choose which .dol to launch, the apploader(like Gecko OS) or the main.dol directly. Loading the main.dol directly has the advantage to allow (more easy...) .dol patches, like language patches. Also the compatiblity could be different, but i did not hear yet from not working VC/WiiWare for one of both methods.

in case you did not use the official Nintendo updater.. you can try http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Dop-IOS or http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Dop-IOS/Dop-IOS_MOD .

Try to first download the new IOS36 with it and assign the trucha bug and the ES_Verify hack to it.. if it works, then Gecko will show the channel menu. If it does not work you need to install the old IOS36. Notice that this means that your Wii will (unless you have Preloader) try to update IOS36 in case you use a game which ships with System Menu 3.3 or higher!

Arrgh. On 4.2 without a cIOS, without an IOS36 that allows channel loading, you can't just patch IOS36 to allow it nor you can just install an old IOS36. Also keep in mind that the old IOS36 do not work on new Wiis! You can look for Trucha Bug Restorer mod or TBR 1.1(as soon as i release that). The updated TBR should allow you to get the IOS36 you want.

I know I know, he never said if he used an old or new Wii.. besides: in worst case it just wouldn't have worked, however, for several TBR tools.. I do not recommend tools I haven't used simply because I have no experience with them.. you gotta understand my position.. I cannot recommend tools I have no experience with and in recent time with a new job I lack the time to do much more development with my Wii.

We discussed this multiple times.. the ways are:
a) Get DOP-IOS MOD (which hopefully works) and download IOS36 or IOS35 and do an ES_Verify and fakesign patch
b) Try installing a cIOS prior to Dop-IOS Mod
b) if neither cIOS works nor DOP-IOS does not work - use the Trucha Bug Restorer before!

Any ideas how I could solve this are more than welcomed.

If your Wii does not have a modchip, Gecko OS cannot boot backups!

I have made some small modifications and fixes to the Gecko OS code, if you have System Menu 4.2 then please try this and let me know if there are any issues:
Gecko 1.9.3 RC (http://files.me.com/brkirch/0wly5k)

Plus the wii doesn't read RWs...

It does, but that's not the question here. Discuss backup questions somewhere else, this is a forum about Wiird and Gecko OS.

I was trying to use the 1.9.3 version and get the "no dvd" error. version gives a "disc read" error =/ this RC version gives the same "no dvd" error. tried finding version 1.7 thinking maybe it would help.

Why not use the 1.9.1 version instead :)

Recently I brought the SuperMario Bros. wii & Taiko II games n load it on
my set using Gecko V1.9 to launch d games. However, there is an error
which read "error: No DVD"

Anyone can let me know any ways to solve this issue. Thank you.

Well.. after the most recent changes.. this is Gecko 1.9.2b - I added the b simply because it is no real new version.. more-so an SVN based bugfix version thanks to changes in System Menu 4.2

What's new:
