Turns out you can reassemble most of a Wii U, including the top cover, while keeping the bottom RFI shield and cover off.
The result is solid, yet wide open for hardware hacking. Almost all of the testpoints are exposed.

That seems a little bit excessive. But definitely neat.

Needs more software hacking. I most likely won´t risk breaking my USB Gecko or Wii U while doing this.

This is awesome, getting my hopes up. :)

how so? I haven't seen or heard anything for a while, but if you could fill me in as to why it's not for debugging like the gecko originally that'd be great.

According to http://fail0verflow.com/blog/2013/espresso.html it would seem that homebrew may never make it to the Wii U (not vWii).  Looks like hacking Wii U games may never be realized.  :(

If I remember correctly, the famous coder/hacker "Crediar" is already working on the Wii U (vWii at the moment).

Yes, crediars work currently is meaningless to Wii U mode hacks. ._.

does anyone know what has already been achieved with it (USB Gecko related)?

EDIT:
a "hacker" claims to have direct memory access and told to be able to manipulate it.
