I'll keep it simple...

Seeing as most of us are using the gecko versions (and not the new Wii action replay) we don't actually use the same code-types as you are aware.

Just simply replacing the address values won't work since the handler isn't the same.

It might be easier (and possibly more economical) just to install homebrew and use the already made gecko codes.

but I don't know how to do that? and I would have no idea what I'm doing along with the fear of bricking my sytem.

Please refer to here. It's quite simple since it runs (or rather, Action Replay uses the same programming type).
Action Replay has the same amount of system bricking risk since it's the same function using LetterBomb/A modified version of it.

Nope. You just need to download the proper files for Homebrew channel and the apps, being GeckoOS.

The only reason you need to buy a USB Gecko is if you want to hack your own codes.

do you have a step by step guide to do that?

also how much space does it take? Could I still access the wii shop channel? Is entering new gecko codes easy?

See the following.

As long as your wii is still up to date you should be able to access the shop channel.
