Title: Can taking out your SD Card while a homebrew app is loaded crash/brick your Wii?
Post by: IHackWii615 on March 31, 2012, 01:24:58 PM
Hi, I'm new here, and I want to extract my savegames but my SD Card with homebrew in it has too high capacity. If I take my SD Card out of my Wii to insert another one, will my Wii crash/brick while the homebrew app is loaded?

Your Wii will not brick unless you are careless, and make un-necessary modifications to the Wii. (Don't install WADs and stuff)

Also, if you swap SD Cards, it will not cause the Wii to crash.

Yes, I know about WAD installing. Thank you for the help!  :) I will never even risk installing WADs because I want the lowest chance of bricking my Wii possible. EDIT: It is taking quite some time to extract the save. Is that normal?

It shouldn't take too long to extract a save.  Unless it has to dump the whole NAND, in which case then yes it will take a long time.

You can also brick your Wii with a "banner brick", if you try to change a banner or something for the System Menu.  Not sure, never had any interest in trying.

If you have Bootmii as boot2, then it is almost impossible to brick your Wii, even if you hose your IOS installations.  However, if you can't install Bootmii in boot2 (i.e. your boot1 does not have the fakesign exploit) then you do need to be careful.
