Title: Super Mario Galaxy - Nintendo Selects
Post by: misterhalfevil on January 12, 2012, 11:42:59 PM
Before I begin, allow me to commend those who created these forums, and for creating the WiiRD database.  It's been nothing but pure awesome in any game I've "enhanced" using the software.  :-)

I have a problem, however, and I seem to be unable to help myself.

I have purchased the "Nintendo Selects" version of SM Galaxy 1.  On the disc, it is labeled RVL-RMGE-USA-B0.  (That's BEE-OH or BEE-ZERO.  Hard to tell.)  On the case, it is labeled RVL P RMG1 USZ.

RMGE-01 codes appear to be incompatible with my version.  Please, take me by the hand and point out where I'm going wrong, or point me in the right direction.

Finally, thanks to all of you for all of your hard work and dedication to this project.  It has certainly made my life better!  Please help!  :-)

I figured I could get more specific.

I'm using v1.9 of Gecko

My Wii was v4.3U before I hacked it

It now says 4.2, lol

Even when choosing one cheat, infinite health, I receive a DSI Exception, followed by a dump

Help?

On the disc, it is labeled RVL-RMGE-USA-B0.

You looked in the wrong place.  Look on the *bottom* of the disc, on the *inside* ring.  http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/index.php/topic,8488.0.html

Your string should look like RVL-RMGE-0A-0.  The bolded digit may be different.

Do you have a USB Gecko?  If not, your post really belongs over in Wii Help board, not Game Hacking Help.  If you do have a USB Gecko, then the byte at 80000007 should tell you what version you have.  Recent versions of Gecko.NET will also add a string to the title bar if it detects a version other than 1.

You say you're getting a DSI Exception.  Is this at the main (edit: Gecko OS) screen immediately after starting the game?

By the way, your version of Gecko OS is very old.  Update to 1.9.3.1.  http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Gecko_OS

Thank you for such a prompt reply!  I do not have a USB Gecko - this conversation should be moved.  New to the forums...I apologize.

DSI exception occurs after Gecko screen passes, next result is the error.

GeckoOS is currently at 1.9.3.1.

Inside ring reads [RVL-RMGE-0A-0].

IOS is at version:

1.0.8

IOS 58 v24.31

Can this information help you diagnose my issue?

I'll move the post in a little bit.

You have version 1 of SMG.  If you still have this issue using the latest Gecko OS, then I would try to disable SD cheats and see if the game loads.

I'm pretty sure SMG isn't supposed to use IOS58, though.  1.0.8 sounds more like what version of HBC you have.

You said you used to have 4.3 and you downgraded to 4.2?  That might actually cause a problem.  Downgrading is almost always an evil thing to do.  But SMG is so old that downgrading shouldn't have broken any IOS that SMG uses.

Look at the DSI exception and report back what SRR0: is.  Or a screenshot of your screen with the DSI exception would be even better.  That can help narrow down the problem.

Alright.

To make sure that I understand, I have the first version of SMG.  Go into GeckoOS settings, disable SD cheats, see if the game loads.

(Wouldn't that negate the purpose, however?  Disabling the cheats, I mean?)

The DSI exception has only occurred once - when I selected only one cheat, infinite health.  The set of cheats I chose was for RMGE01...

Is there a different set of cheats necessary for this "Nintendo Selects" version?

Hallelujah!

Disabling SD card cheats allows the loader to, well, load.  Game runs OK - no cheats, but it does indeed function.

Correct, you have the first version of SMG.  So far as we know, this is the only version.  All of the codes for RMGE01 should work.

If the DSI exception only happened once, then what's the problem with your codes?  IIRC, the inf health from dexter0 had a problem with causing crashes, but it shouldn't have crashed right after Gecko OS launched the game...

Disabling cheats is just to check and see if one of the codes is causing a problem.

Between us, we have solved my problem!  The issue?  I was being a stupidhead!

I was using a code labeled "Infinite Life."  That was the sole cheat I chose.  I deselected it, and chose "Invincible" instead.

Guess what?  It worked...therefore, I was being a stupidhead.  Why not try both available choices before running to an online forum for help, and bothering a very kind fellow nerd?  I'm a little embarrassed.

At any rate, I think I fell victim to the health code from dexter0...however, I wouldn't call it a mark against him, as he has also created some bitchin' codes for Mario Kart Wii, unless I'm mistaken.

Having seen that one cheat works, later on I will try other codes.  For now, I will simply beat the hell out of the Daredevil Bouldergeist that I've wasted an entire afternoon and about ~90 lives on.

I will PM you with my results, if you like.  Either way, thank you for taking the time to help me with all this.  It's pretty damn insignificant in the grand scheme of things, a video game, but man oh man can it piss a guy off!  Thank you again!

why doesn´t dexter´s inf. health code get removed when it only causes problems?
Btw. I ported some codes. ;D

All his code needs is a DE check.  Problem is he uploaded it to the database, so only he can change it.  Unless we ask James nicely.
