Title: Will the games play as black-and-white or in colors?
Post by: Mystia on December 23, 2011, 03:27:14 AM
I got an australian wii (PAL) from ebay, but I live in Brazil, so, my TV is PAL-M. I also bought both PAL and NTSC games, and I want to use gecko to play both codes. But will the game play as black-and-white when I start using it, or does it have color support? Because I really want to play the games in colors.

Since I'm new here, I'm sorry if I'm asking a stupid question or if I'm posting on the wrong place.

I think it should play games in color regardless... this seems rather odd to consider they would even go in Black/White.

It depends on your tv and the games. If your tv supports PAL, all PAL games will be in color, if your tv supports NTSC, all NTSC games will be in color. And if it's a regular not too old PAL tv(<20 years old), it should support both. And in case your tv only supports PAL, there's about a 50/50 chance that you can force a NTSC game to use a PAL video mode, this depends on the game.

My TV is PAL-M, but it also accepts NTSC and PAL-N. But it doesn't accept PAL.

I recently saw this item on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180765922260&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123

Will I be able to play PAL games in colors using it on my TV?

I know that PAL-M is some weird hybrid video mode between PAL and NTSC, but what's PAL-N? If that's PAL60, most PAL games can be played in PAL60, maybe even all of them. And don't you think that adapter is a bit expensive?

PAL-M is the system used in Brazil and most of latin america. And as far as I know, PAL-N is the system used in Argentina and Uruguay, so, it's not PAL60.

I know the adapter is a bit expensive, but I don't think I have another choice...

I asked the seller a question about the converter:

"Hello! Well, I live in Brazil, so, my TV's color system is PAL-M, but it also supports PAL-N and NTSC. Thing is, I've got a nintendo Wii from australia, so, the console is PAL. And I have both NTSC and PAL nintendo wii games. And I want to play all of them in colors. Will I be able to play PAL games in colors on my TV with this converter?"

And he replied this:

"Hi,

Our technician suggest that the output signal of WII is YPbPr (component) and it does not have any consloe difference (NTSC or PAL). It means that you do not need any PAL/NTSC converter just the AV and S-video will have the NTSC and PAL distinguish.

But if you want to have a much higher resolution, you can choose the WII to HDMI converter. Please check it at hte following link:

Argh... all of this converting stuff is giving me headache. @.@

Yes component cables are an alternative to the standard cables, but your tv needs a component input. And i don't know if all games really support it, or fall back to default NTSC or PAL60 without most people noticing.

S-Video is NTSC only and rgb cables are PAL only. Both improve the video quality a bit over the standard cables, but at least the rgb cables don't work with NTSC video mode, i don't know what the s-video cables do with PAL video modes.
