Title: Gecko OS 1.9: cheats not working
Post by: olaa on December 16, 2011, 11:30:05 PM
I've tried searching, but didn't find the answer.

I have the latest Gecko OS version and I'm trying to use cheats on Mario Kart Wii. I use the codes on the gecko database, create the .GCT file using the Online GCT Creator and I even get Gecko OS to recognize the codes on the SD card ("SC codes found. Applying." or something similar). But the codes just don't work in-game.

HELP? =)

Extra info: my MKWii is the US version; my Wii is updated to 4.3U (don't call me names, please); and the code I tried was (from http://geckocodes.org/?c=RMCE01 ) Offline Multi Item Hack.

I also wanted to try other codes in case this one was not working, but everytime I tryed another one I'd get an error (black screen with white text and numbers) and had to manually turn off the system...

Check version?

Your disc should hopefully read "RVL-RMCE-0A-0"

RVL RMCE-0A-0 USA; yup, just as you said.
What does this mean?

It means you have version 1, so the codes should work.  I'm not sure why you're having problems.

Could it be somehow related to the so called activator button? I chose the code that didn't ask me to change it at all, since I'm new to this stuff. All I have is the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. Do I need the gamecube controller for this? Also, could it be related to the fact that my Wii is upgraded to 4.3U?

Thanks a lot for your time and support, I really appreciate it.

Edit: is there a possibility that I screwed up on the code creation? Is it really supposed to have a space almost on the middle of every line of the code?

Final edit: Got it to work! Two things were happening at the same time, maybe you guys could post this somewhere else so newbies like me are not lost and/or nagging and bugging you over here ;p

1. The Online GCT Creator for some reason does NOT include the first line of the code, never. I found this out by downloading and editing the .GCT file with the GCT editor.

2. Also, the codes would ONLY work if I removed those spaces I mentioned, even though the Online GCT Creator would tell me the code was invalid if I removed the spaces.

Anyway, after editing the codes with the GCT Editor, including the first line AND removing all the spaces, I got them to work!

Thanks a lot for once again for the support and time. This place is great.

Glad you solved the problem.  It was a good idea to verify the Online GCT Creator with another tool.  I'll let James know that it isn't making the correct GCT file.

I just checked, with the exact code you mentioned.
http://geckocodes.org/index.php?gct=RMCE01

The online gct creator worked fine....
I always used the online gct creator before the Accio Hacks app, I never had a problem with it...

Can you really reproduce the problem? The only thing that could possibly be different between us (assuming that you didn't edit the codes) is we may use different browsers... If for some reason the regular expressions I wrote to grab the data are behaving differently else where, then that is indeed a big problem...

What browser and version do you use, olaa? I'd really appreciate if you found a problem so I can fix it..

I used OPERA version 11.60
Since you thought this could be a matter related to my browser, I decided to try it with Google Chrome (16.0) and IE (7). I still had the same problem, the first line of the code was NOT included.

BTW, I think I could've been doing this the wrong way all along... when adding a code using the online creator, should the first line be the cheat description? If I added a description or whatever as the very first line, part of the problem is solved... but the cheat still wont work UNLESS I remove all the spaces too (which I can't do using the online creator). Ex.: F6000001 80008030 has to be F600000180008030

If you guys need any info, just let me know. I'll be more than happy to help you, its the least I can do.

Edit: I feel kinda dull and stupid, I just realized there was an easier and automatic way to this... the first line issue was really my fault, I guess. I was manually copying the code and just adding it myself, so the first line was used as the description by the online creator. The only thing that still wasn't solved is that space thing... I still had to open the codes with the GCT Editor and remove all the spaces to make it work for me, otherwise Gecko would recognize the code, tell me its applying them but they wouldn't work at all in-game.

Now I'm really confused... today I tried playing with the cheat again and... it didn't work.

After I got it to work yesterday, I played for a while and then just turned off the Wii. I didn't change a thing today, the SD card was inside Wii all the time... Gecko says the code was found and was applying it, but it didn't work... I really don't know whats going on here...

olaa, do you think you could use a hex editor?  gct files are raw hex, so you could open your gct file in a hex editor and copy/paste the hex into a spoiler.  We could then perhaps see if there's something wrong.

The interesting thing was noting that the code with spaces and the one without spaces (which worked for me just once) both had the same hex code... so, of course, I only pasted one.

Yeah, the spaces don't do anything, they will be stripped before being GCT'd.

That looks correct, so far as I can tell.  That code is fairly complex.

You should try a simpler code that's easy to determine if it's working or not.  Anarion's No Item Indicator looks like a good candidate.

Thanks for the tests, olaa. Yes, the codes must be added in the standard code format in order to be parsed.
Glad it works for you. =)

I am having the same problem as the original post. It says sd codes found. Applying. Nothing happens. For some it could be the activation button (where/when do I activate), but I can actually get one code to work from accio hacks:
Zombie infinite ammo host only [Seth@wiiplaza]

043A648C 38000063
*stays same, no decrease

I want to try moon jump, UFO, custom teleport, infinite points.... I can't get them to work. I have been trying for two weeks.
