SSBB doesn't seem to work at all and I've tried 3 different Brawl discs, but it always comes out as DVD not being able to be read. I put different settings on Gecko and also checked for scartches, but each disc looks fine and better than some other I have. Does anyone else have a problem like this?
Are you able to play SSBB without Gecko OS? If not, you should try to clean your wii laser. Try youtube etc. If it still doesn't work, you can use an USB Loader.
BTW Gecko OS doesn't support burned backup discs... You have to install cIOS Corp!
Do other games work fine with Gecko?
This has happened to me before, but I was able to fix the problem by waiting a bit, and it just worked.
I think there might be a problem with your Wii DVD Drive, but I can't say for sure.
Also, as Deathwolf said, try playing the game w/o Gecko OS.
I tried it without Gecko too, but even that doesn't work. BTW, all of my Brawl discs are legit and bought either online or a shop.
Oh, and all other games work fine with Gecko.
I used the cleaning kit and there was quite a lot of dust on the lens. At frist the game didn't work, but the second time I tried it worked fine and there were no crashes like there usually are with Brawl.
The game crashed again and made that awful sound. :/
without codes?
No, I have codes on, but it crashes a LOT less than it used to. I just used my cleaning kit to check for more dust, and there was a little bit still on there.
Edit: The game froze again. Anyone know which codes do this?
How should we know since we don't know which codes you're using?xD post it here.
every Alloy killed equals 1000
P.Trainer Infinite Stamina, originally by Phantom Wings
99 Lives (Press L)
Infinite Jumps (Must be on)
P1 Infinite Jumps
In the past, the game has crashed even without codes on.
just looked at the every alloy killed = 1000, noticed i didn't use an endif. try:
every Alloy killed equals 1000(press L during the match)
284DE4B0 FFBF0040
049546EC 380403E8
E0000000 80008000
Oh, actually, I turned that code off and continued playing Brawl, but the game crashed again.
I now have these codes on:
99 Lives (Press L) (Still)
XXXX alloys defeated in cruel brawl/endless brawl
Disable HRC Timer: Down and A to Finish
Infinite Jumps (Must be on) (Still)
P1 Infinite Jumps (Still)
Also, this has happened before when I've had the codes off, but because it happens far less than it did before, I'm not sure.
Though... I'm not 100% sure, but the problem of crashing may have to do with when I unlock a new character. It could be that the game crashes when I continue the SSE, but also have a new character unlocked.
This is just a thought, but it might be the DVD-drive itself for the Wii. Brawl (early editions especially) has had some known issues with slowly killing the drive (especially on older models)
I had to send my Wii into Nintendo and they had to replace the entire drive, mind you this was way before I even had Homebrew and all that fun stuff on my system.
As Deathwolf and Arudo said, sounds like your drive is dying... try a USB loader and see if that fixes the issue. If nothing else the USB loader will narrow down whether your issue is the drive or the codes. I believe the general opinion in this forum is that USB loaders are ethical if your drive is dying -- just don't steal games and all should be fine.
Also, don't bother sending your Wii to Nintendo for repair... they will most likely refuse due to homebrew "voiding your warranty."
I wasn't going to send it to Nintendo.
I've heard of another (more recent) game that kills drives, but I wasn't aware that Brawl did it.
Man. :/
BTW, how do I store things on a USB? And is it true that each SD card can only be used for a specific Wii?
I don't really want to buy a new Wii, because then I'll have to set everything up all over again and some things took ages. :(
If you look on the announcements, they've announced a 'new' Homebrew installer that's fairly painless.
As far as the SD cards go there shouldn't be an issue jumping from wii to wii, otherwise how else would people share save files and stuff?
On the comment about warranty though:
My warranty had actually ran out when I first bought Brawl, but there is (or was) an offer in regards to the release of Brawl stating that it would fry the drive. I sent Nintendo both my Wii and copy of Brawl as 'evidence' that the system would crash and they replaced the drive (and probably any other borked bits) free of charge and left my saves etc. alone. Of course this is pre-hacked Wii so it was still 'okay'.
But how do you use the USB loader?
You'd best not ask about that here in particular due to it's applications in piracy.
Uh... then do I have to vuy a new Wii? :/
If you have a USB Hard Drive, then you could use it to run games.
But, no one here will help you with it. Google will be your friend here. Use key terms such as - "USB Loader"
Thats the only advice I can give you without being scolded.
You should use USB Loader GX or Config. USB Loader.

I can't find anything under a new Homebrew installer in the updates section.
Also, I can't find anything under USB loader other than out of date topics, things I need to install that I can't find online and a list of what's needed in no specific order and it just lists fix's. I've even found a guide that looks good, but it doesn't work for me because files arn't showing up when I go to Homebrew. :/
1. http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/index.php/topic,8733.0.html
2. You won't find anything about USB Loader here.
3. Google.
Actually, I have it now.
The hell... A lot of Brawl codes are left off at the end. :/ Is there a way to fix that?
Anyone know how to open a GCT file? I need to edit what's in it, so I can use the Moonjump codes for Brawl. There's a limit on the number of codes in the list of Brawl codes.
Hmm... I've found the file I want, deleted some codes, but now all codes are gone from Ocarina...
How the F*** do I edit the codes in Ocarina?! The list of codes there has quite a few I don't want and I want to get rid of them! HOW THE HELL DO I DO IT?! SERIOUSLY. I just want to use a friggin' Moon Jump code for Brawl, but It's so far down the list, that it's chopped off.
put the gct file into the folder "codes". Go option and turn ocarina on. Finish....
The game just crashed again...
Codes I'm using:
Inf Jumps (Must be on)
Inf Jumps (P1)
HRC disable timer (Down+A to finish)
Press L for 99 lives
Have you ever tried to delete your save file!? Maybe some codes corrupted your save... It could be..but I'm not sure, just saying.
Yeah, I've done that before, but it never makes much of a difference.
BTW, how can codes corrupt saves?
Example the music. Sometimes the game crashes for no reason. It's because the music has changed...
hmm... Usually mine crashes when I'm fighting at the beginning of a level in SSE.
This time, though, it happened when I went through a door.
HRC disable timer for SSE mode?
No. It just disables it in HRC.
Is there even a timer in SSE? (normally)
Not sure if this helps, but I was in the level "The Subspace Bomb Factory" Where you play as DK, Capt Falcon, Olimar and Diddy.
Hmm ok I see. Yeah that's really odd. Does the VS mode work?
Well, before I used the cleaning set, VS mode used to crash all the time. Though, it doesn't seem to now...
Does it even crash without codes? Try SSE and VS mode please. If yes, there's something wrong with your disc... not sure.
Actually... I've backed up my disc.
Though, for some reason, all 3 of my Brawl discs always used to freeze, even without codes.
Bad dump (maybe)? Try an original Disc if you can.
All my Brawl Discs are original. I've even backed up my PAL disc.
I've just played VS. mode with codes on and it works fine.
try to back-up your savegame and create a new one.
The old one is probably messed up.
(Sry if this was already posted, I didn´t read through all posts)
Hmm... Again, I've already deleted my saves before, but it doesn't really work.
Though, that was when my disc reader was quite dirty.
I deleted everything through the game, so I could start again, before these other problems started.

It might be a problem with your wii drive... I have heard a lot of older model wiis (under 3.4 preinstalled) have problems with dual layered discs, like brawl. Do you recall what version your wii had preinstalled?
Hmm... I got mine years ago, when the Wii came out here.
But I've backed-up my disc, so I don't really get why this should be a problem...
The thing is, other Duel-layered discs don't have any problems, just Brawl.
Also, I've backed-up my disc with USB.
Played the same level again, but this time the game crashed when Diddy got KO'd
I don't see the point of this. It freezes with USB,Disc,w/ codes and even with all 3 versions? WTF
Yeah... This is really annoying. >: ( It even froze twice on the same level and it's never done that before.
Found the problem and It's the Inf Jumps code. Is there an alt code?
