Title: An issue arises: Black screen after code load.
Post by: Doomware on June 03, 2011, 01:25:21 AM
Ok I have have Homebrew, Gecko w/ codes, and Im fairly certain I installed the IOS patch correctly.

When I choose launch channel-FFCC:My Life as a darklord, the game starts loading, says its scanning for saves, the message goes away, and I'm left with a black screen.

The game works fine If I go to it from the Wii Menu.

Do you have any USB devices attached to your Wii?

Is it the hook type?

I remember when I tried to play Majora's Mask, that I would occasionally have some issues loading with Gecko OS.  I just kept trying and it would eventually work (second or third time usually.  still frustrating..)

I think one thing that helped is using Rebooter first.  Makes me wonder if it's some IOS reload glitch or something.

So try this.  After loading Gecko OS, press Launch Rebooter.  You'll be taken back to the System Menu.  Go back to HBC, and then Gecko OS again.  Now try loading your channel again.

Another thing to try is loading the channel without any cheats in the SD:\codes folder.  One of the codes might be messing it up.  You can also try loading a different channel to see if that works.

I use the default hook type.

I have tried with and without "force NTSC"

I have tried many times.

I tried with rebooter.

I'll try loading it w/ hooks but w/o codes in a moment...

Do any of the codes look like they might cause conflict to you?

You're using NTSC version?  WF2E is the game ID?

It looks like there is DLC for this game, and the DLC moves some things around.  GMO posted two identical codes that differ only by address.  Make sure you're using the right codes if you have DLC or not.

Yeah, I just tried w/ hooks but w/o codes and it worked. So I just need to use the proper codes. I'll come back if there are other problems.

Ok...new problem...no black screen now that I've filtered through the codes, BUT none of them work for me.(Probably because they were made with either none or all of the DLC, and I only have some of it)

I guess I need someone to point me to where I can learn to make these codes myself.

First, go read the threads in the collective.  There's a ton of info on hacking.  Make sure you understand things like hexadecimal and what different code types do.

If you feel like it's not too much to handle, then you can buy a USB Gecko SE and start hacks yourself.  VC/WiiWare isn't too hard to hack because it's almost all data hacks.  ASM hacks require you to understand significantly more about how computers work.

Darn it, I thought you didn't need a USB gecko to hack.

I guess I'll just have to go to the codes req. section then(Man this is going to be a doozy of a req..)

Or I'll have to do some sucking-up to get a bunch of Wii points and get the rest of the DLC.

DLC purchased, downlaoded, and the codes now work...at the grand cost of 40$.
