Title: How old do you think a hacker must be
Post by: toonlink444 on January 15, 2011, 10:52:25 PM
I've been thinking about this lately because it seems that the amount of computer knowlege is somewhat included in asm. So what is the right age to start hacking to you. I am still learning but I'm picking it up slowly because of my age mabey. Not sure but pretty sure so once again what do you think is the right age to be a hacker

I'm 14. How long did it take you to learn?

N64 hacking with GS Pro didn't have asm, I believe that is correct.
I started in 1999 with GS Pro on N64. Back at gscentral.com.

Being a hacker does not take brains.  It's just time and effort to learn the codetypes... but that's only if you do basic RAM writes or basic ASM.  You could be 5, if you had a matured concentration level, and you could do some basic codes.  I doubt you would understand what you were doing, if you were 5... but it could still be done.

To do more advanced codes with branches and complicated ASM instructions... you should be around 15... depending on how far you are in math.  Sometimes algebra 3-4 is incoorperated in advanced codes.

Just taking geometry. Well I know I can learn this. But I learn best with someone telling me how to. I guess this forum is almost like a person but a little less human. Someone should write or make videos on asm and complicated code types. I already read Dextro's or however it's spelled. But more stuff like that is good for some people. I wish I knew enough to make them for others.

I started hacking with Wii hacking on November 21st 2009 the day I got my USB Gecko. I was 20, I had already learned the codetypes a while before in order to understand how the codes I was using worked

I'm 27, I started on the ps1 with the Gameshark with the code search built in, i don't know if anyone remembers those things, it plugged in the back of the ps1 i haven't seen one in ages.

I'd say anyone interested can learn.

I forgot to say, I made my first code when I was 14.  Now, I'm 15, but I'm in Calculus AB, so I know all about Algebra 3-4, for the rare times I use it.
----------------
@toonlink- if you're concerned, don't be... you're missing like, 0.1% of codes to hack.  If you care enough, learn about the unit circle.  That's all I've used from 3-4.

I started hacking with GB on my 13th birthday (April 15th 2000). The amount of computer knowledge of mine was quite limited in those days.
I'd hacked N64 and SNES before I started hacking GBA(~16 years old).
ASM hacking started when GCNrd (GC remote debugger) was released in 2004 (17 years old). I learned PPC assembly and English at the same time on the Internet.
From 2008 to 2009(21 ~ 22 years old), I was writing articles on NDS hacking for "Game labo" (a magazine sold in Japan).
When USB Gecko was released in 2008, I wrote a prototype of cheat code handler for Wii and sent it to Nuke. The prototype was then revised by kenobi, and some code types were added to it by brkirch.
Now I'm 23.
I believe that the age is not a big problem. All you need are the passion to know, and some amount of free time.

I was about 10 year old when I started messing with Game Genie on NES, then later I started messing with Game Genie on SNES. I really got started with hacking when Game Guru came out for 3D0. I came on the scene later in 2000 for PS2 when Game Shark 2 hit shelves. I am 28 now. You do the math

all the experienced hackers met up here on WiiRd again, I noticed.
"How do you think a hacker must be?" He must be old, if he is experienced with a lot of older consoles since about 1999 :D

Btw. I was 15 in 2009 as I started hacking with my USB Gecko, don´t remember when exactly. It was hard to start without any knowledges, I even didn´t know how to do a Mem90 RAM write or didn´t know why to use the Memory Viewer... :( Then my result adresses were moving every time and I was screwed (Pointer didn´t work). My friend always told me: "Full ASM is too hard, blabla!" :p but I still kept bothering to learn it and I at least was able to do most codes in ASM till today. Would be a shame to fail at making the code clear, after finding the right adress... I´m 17 now, it was totally worth to use USB Gecko and learn how to hack.
It´s normal that I´m not as good as people with about 28... I only hacked for almost 2 years O0

started hacking on the PSP with CW cheat. (13 years)
then with the USB GECKO on the wii. (14-15 years)
Wii hacken sounds really interesting for me and I saw lots of ssbb hacks and codes from phantom wings, Y.S.
maybe I'm really too late :/

maybe this sounds bad but I'm not impressed of ASM codes from older hackers. their english is pro.
ASM is hard to understand with bad english but dcx2 know how to teach noobs  :)

I'm 29 and have been hacking everything that I come across since I got my first computer 17 years ago. I also program in pascal, fortran, C++ and Visual Basic. I'm new to the Gecko and WiiRd though and it seems i'm catching on fairly quickly. After reading this thread i'm actually surprised some of the coders here are so young? Good job to all of you young guys because I know alot of grown people that can barely tie their shoes much less do ASM or comprehend bits/bytes.

I got my gecko while I was still 16.. Tried teaching myself most all of the ASM and I guess did fairly well.. If I didn't understand something I would come on here and bug the masters (thanks James0x57, dcx2, and link :P, oh and of course nuke for making the Gecko in the first place). about 8 months after I got it.. (about now) I know 99% of the ASM's I ever run across in the games.. the only thing I don't understand are really random float functions.. like the psq functions or whatever where they work with multiple floats (this I blame on never being able to find a proper ASM float instruction list to learn what they do..)

Btw, I'm 17 now and contemplating learning Java (for minecraft mods).

It's been said before, and I'll say it again; As long as you are inspired there's nothing holding you back. You could be 80, and still hack. You could be 5 and still hack.
As long as you find it rewarding you will even get addicted to it.  O0
