Title: Couldn't apply any N64 cheat code, with Gecko
Post by: TunaLover on November 12, 2010, 01:34:43 PM
Hi
I'm trying to apply some cheat codes to Super Mario 64 (VC), I'm using Gecko 1.9.3.1, every time the loader say that the SD codes are applying, but then during gameplay there is no effect. The cheats correspond to the same region as the game NTSCU (NAAE), using AccioHacks app.
Gecko menu screen tells me that it's using IOS249
Tried with: GC pad, Wii pad, default, VBI.

My Wii is 4.3

EDIT: I tried with LoZ:Ocarina of Time, and the same thing, the cheats just doesn't apply even when Gecko say they were applied, or the game simply crush.
It works just fine with my WiiWare titles however.

Any idea?

Do NONE of the codes work? Does the game crash at random, or only with certain codes?

And I don't think you should waste your time with different hooks. I tried that in the past, it never made a difference for me.

I had the a similar problem. Make sure that your hook is on OSSSleep Thread.

None of the codes work, and some of them cause game crash.
If people still makes cheat codes for those games that means they works for some Wiis, could be it a problem with 4.3?

Well, I would try what cydp3 said since he had the same problem. I hope that works.

If that doesn't work, there is always reinstalling the app.
Weird, not even the new codes work?

No, I can easily use cheat codes for Paper Mario (VC) while being on 4.3

I tried with OSSleep Thread but no luck =(
I download the .gct direct from gecko codes and the problem still there, so it's not problem of AccioHacks.
WiiWare codes and Wii disc games codes work with Gecko, so I doubt it's a problem with the app...
Removed my GCN memory cards, even tried with a Classic Controller and Gamecube controller XD.
I tried with other game and the same thing.

I'm out of ideas guys =(
My console is NTSCU if that help, I will change the language settings to English, hope it works.

EDIT: Language setting change doesn't work $%%"#! arrgghhh =/

Are you using cIOS249? If that so, what version it is?

Yeah, install patched I0S36 if you haven't got the launch channel option on Gecko, but I think you might have...

I already try with patched IOS36, but no luck... :-\
It's strange that VC SNES codes works, but N64 don't

Most Ocarina of Time and most SM 64 cheats work for me.

Could you attach a system scan (using system checker(also on Dop Mii)) in a zip file in a post
(hooray for being able to attach zip files now!)

Maybe it has to do with what ios gecko os/Homebrew Channel is loaded with.
Is Homebrew channel installed on ios 58 (default) or ios 35 (alternative)?
You will see it somewhere on the main menu screen of the Homebrew Channel (press the home button on the loader)

Also, maybe try another loader A.K.A. Gecko OS mod (unofficial release that can play GC games as well)

And uhh, I am not sure but try using Wiigators cios 249.

Try installing IOS 36 with a different app. Dopmii and Multi Mod Manager can install patched ios36.

     ------------------------------
ONLY TRY THE BELOW IF YOU HAVE BOOTMII INSTALLED AS BOOT2 AND BOOTMII AS AN IOS AND HAVE A NAND BACKUP
(which I reccomend, look it up, it is easy after you have already hacked your wii, you can skip a bunch of steps)
Now your Wii will always boot to Bootmii which contains an option on the menu to make a backup of your NAND on your Wii, and to load the NAND stored on the SD card, this makes your Wii able to recover to that time you made a backup at ANY time.

So, just in case you somehow manage to brick your Wii (no matter HOW bricked it is) you will always be able to restore it.
----------------------------------------
If you use Dop Mii and have messed with your ios's, then reinstall all applicable ios (using Dop Mii is fine) WITHOUT applying any patches.

For example, any ios that says in the description that it 'is used by some VC and WiiWare games', and while you are at it, and AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A BACKUP AND BOOT2 AND BOOTMII IOS, you can delete any stubs if you feel like it, it doesn't matter as long as you have the backup stuff.

Maybe I will attach a copy of a system scan of my wii, so you can compare it with a Wii that is working properly.

And it could be great if you can post your scan too, in order to compare both Wii's, another thing... could you post your settings, for example what cIOS are you using, what version of Gecko. hooks and such?

Thanks again for your time =)

Ah, HBC runs under IOS58.

That works too!

Reinstall IOS 36, use DopMii.

In the future though, please put that info into a spoiler (using the 'Sp' button on the top that you see while making a new post and editing using the full edit button (the pencil in the top)

In the spoiler is a list of my ios's and their patches.
In Dop Mii, you can reinstall any ios from the NUS that says it is downloadable (if you have WiFi) with or without each individual patch.
Once again, be sure you have a back up!
Oh, and I did delete some IOS I think... No big deal, they are just stubs. But do not delete all IOS you do not see, because I have never had a 4.3 Wii, so be sure that in the description it doesn't say something like 'used by 4.3 Wiis' or 'unknown use at this time'

I will try IOS249 v17 (as you) maybe my version is screwing the codes.

Doesn't work, I wonder it's because 4.3, I' have no idea what is going on =(

What makes your Wii a 4.3 exactly I wonder...?

Hmm... Maybe try installing Wii System Menu 4.2.

but before you try that... wait a moment while I look at something.

I do not have a 4.3 Wii, so I do not know which ios are important, but I don't think you need all of those stub IOSs, I would delete some that obviously do not do anything. (Note: if you know that an ios does something but the description says differently, trust your knowlege and let it be.)

Do you need IOS 236?

Also, when you install IOS36, be sure to install V3351, not V3607

Oh, also, fakesign is trucha.

I just want to be sure you know, if you lose power during a NAND recovery, I am pretty sure you brick your Wii PERMANENTLY.
(I just had to let you know)

Here, look at this, while I am pretty sure that I downgraded 1 or 2 ios, I do not have any ios except ios58 that is present on a 4.3, I am thinking it is some kind of problem with a certain ios revision. (as far fetched as that MAY be, we don't have many other options)

It won't take that long, just use Dop Mii (not WiiBrew edition...I don't understand that edition)
be sure to look at which patches are applied to each.

Itsn't definitively a 4.3 problem, as a guy could apply their codes just fine.

The hook in ocarina is working, it works on WiiWare and VC games (except N64 ones)

The hook works with my 249.

I tested IOS36 v3351 with all patches applied, and no luck.

Could you try specifically Super Mario 64 moon jump code? That's what I'm using for testing.

Off topic: My IOS9 is a copy of IOS36 stored in the IOS9 slot, that makes old games like Twilight Princess can blink the disc slot light when you eject the disc during gameplay, that's why it has a so high version  :p

Also, Gecko OS mod doesn't have the launch channel option, at least the version I downloaded, if you know other loader with channel launcher, please let me know. =)

And again thanks for your support =)

Ah, right, I forgot, the Mod cannot do that.

no problem!

Are you sure you aren't just trying all of the wrong codes? Try using just one of the run really fast codes. I remember those work.

Installed IOS36 v3351 with all patches applied again, and nothing, I copy your exact settings, and only put one code "the run fast" one, nothing happened.

By the way I just see in ShowMiiWads that SM64 is version 0, maybe not every code is based on that version?  just a though.
Also SM64 and Zelda: OoT runs originally under IOS9, but I think IOS36 (patched) is able to run them too, I'm not sure...

I have a rediculous idea that is pretty much garunteed to work, no matter WHAT.

I can give you a NAND backup from my Wii (It has SOME work to be done as far as installing some cios I think, but not much) and the Keys.bin file, with some editing (you will have to look up how online) you can use hex editor to change the keys .bin file, put both in the root of the SD card, and then you will practically have my Wii. It HAS to work...

P.S. First you should make another NAND backup.

-removed- NAND backups and keys are considered piracy -hetoan2
keys.bin

I may have the easy answer for u guys when u export the gct to your Sd go into your sd codes folder an change the game id for example im playing zelda majora's mask an the game Id is NARE but when u look in your codes folder the id Looks Like this [NARE] so just make sure you remove the brackets from the game id it should just looks like this NARE no brackets let me know if this works for any of you

Title: Re: Couldn't apply any N64 cheat code, with Gecko

i have a somewhat similar problem with Super Mario 64 (US). this is my first ever VC game so i tried some of the cheats. when i start a new game i hear the coins racking up while the princess is talking. directly after that i see my coins & stars went up. then directly after that as soon as the guy stops talking to mario the game freezes. any clues

It is probably just a code that is no longer working for whatever reason.

That is a simpler problem, it has to just be a bad code, though, if you are playing some new version of the game, multiple codes may not work.

I am using gecko 9.1.0 (the first three letters are the only important ones)
And I'm trying to use some Paper Mario 64 Codes

but when I go to launch channel I keep getting "error finding channel list" :l
what's this mean?
