Title: Can't use my Wii DVD ROM Drive without updating!
Post by: Takeshi55 on November 02, 2010, 10:35:10 PM
I can't remember what it's called, but I can't play games on a disc without the Wii wanting to update itself!
It's just prompted me to update it when I put in the Game Disc for PokéPark Wii, but I've already played that game, so it doesn't seem to need the update.

Is there a way around updating it?

Yeah, there's no reason to use the Disc Channel anymore once you have HBC.  Gecko OS installs all the required IOS from the update partition, without updating the System Menu, so it is about as safe as you can get.

However, if you have the latest HBC, then even updates to the System Menu are safe.

Gecko OS will install the IOS automatically.  There's no menu or anything.  If you don't need an IOS installed, it won't say anything.

And again...if you have Gecko OS, there's no reason to use the Disc Channel anymore.
