Hi, I noticed earlier that there was another update for the Wii. I was wondering if I should do it.

Update 4.3 - do NOT update!
From the news at the top of the page.
No... No. I got my homebrew after I updated to v4.3. This morning I check and there is another update. So can anyone help me?
In general, don't update the System Menu.
Well, is there any way to access the Wii Shop Channel now? If there is, can you advise me on how to? Thanks. ;D
First, I would try neogamma
-removed-
try using a rebooter
be sure that the options say that skip updates is on.
Also try Dop Shop

there is a guide to help you
I have used it, works for me,
remove the link to neogamma, it's a backup loader. Gecko OS (and gecko) both have rebooter, so use that instead.
Thanks, I'll get onto that right away!
It's not safe to use yet (I updated to 4.3e before getting Homebrew).
i got the wii shop channel to work just pm me and i will tell you how to do it
It's ok now I've got it sorted :P
just never update the wii.
It´s as simple as that, you don´t ever need to do it.
I have to disagree. there is reason to update certain parts of the wii. The IOS used for games and such should all be kept up to date as best as possible. the system menu is the thing that doesn't ever need to be updated. Anything the newer system menus can do Homebrew can do much better. I know this thread is old but I have to make this point. Updating certain things is needed but to update through nintendo is just not a viable option since there first priority is stopping homebrew... For those that would like an easy solution to walk them through the update proccess then check out modmii for windows. For those that are a little more aware of what they are playing with just google a bit you will see what IOS have added functionality and which ones don't need to be installed or updated.
If you're using Gecko OS, it will install any required game IOS without updating the System Menu for you. It does not require an Internet connection to do this, as the update is stored in a partition on the disc.
The IOS is in fact installed. You can verify this with DOP Mii or somesuch tool. It's not temporary; if you run with Gecko OS again, there is not another prompt.
Remember, Gecko OS does not update the System Menu, it only installs the IOS. The Disc channel checks two things: IOS, and System Menu.
The only way to avoid having the Disc Channel prompt to update is by patching the System Menu with e.g. PriiLoader. This reduces the Disc Channel check to just IOS, like Gecko OS.
I got the prompt when I went to play Super Mario Galaxy 2. It installed without wifi (I keep my wifi turned off). Perhaps your PriiLoader interfered with Gecko OS' detection?
I don't know, I don't use PriiLoader. Or the Disc Channel. Or the System Menu. Bootmii -> HBC -> Gecko OS, that's it.
If Gecko OS didn't prompt you to install the IOS, and it just started playing the game, then the IOS was already installed.
And...what would I need the SM for, if I can go straight into HBC at boot without pressing any buttons?
That's weird about your friend's Wii asking for a Bootmii backup. I don't have that problem, even if I temporarily enable WiFi to do something like transfer over FTPii.
