Title: Trying to get Action Replay GameCube to run on Wii again
Post by: Arudo on October 18, 2010, 07:13:14 PM
I still have my old Action Replay disc and memory card, Version 1.14b but ever since the MIOs was patched I'm at a loss as to how to make it work again. Of course I could just go and play on my gamecube, but I'm still trying to find a way to work it on wii.

My other issue is trying to run Japanese Region GC games on my wii, which is associated with my AR Disc. However that thing looks like it might give out at some point so I want to make sure I have a way to boot them one way or another.

Any suggestions?

Technically.. if you can install WAD files.. if you downgrade MIOS and BC to absolutely old versions then your AR will work again.

Specifically MIOSv4. I don't think BC (correct me if I'm wrong) blocked it.

couldn't you just dump your current MIOS and edit the blacklist via hex editor?

Why would anyone go through that trouble? Downgrading it is a lot easier.
Well, I highly doubt that Nintendo's only modifications between MIOSv4 and MIOSv10 are anti-homebrew.  MIOS patches some GameCube games for Wii compatibility, and if you downgrade MIOS, you lose those compatibility patches that were developed later.  Hence why the newer cMIOS's use MIOSv10 as a base but simply patch out the blacklist.
