Title: Any to make a Gecko OS Channel
Post by: the_importer on August 24, 2008, 05:08:03 AM
Hey there,

Just a simple question, is there anyway of making a Gecko OS Channel. I made this work with both the TP trick and the Homebrew Channel, but I was wondering if I could simply make a Channel out of this since I only plan to play imports and not homebrews and that swapping with TP is kind of a pain.

Thank you

There are ways of making such a channel, but it can be risky, and there are also some legal concerns with them.  I believe that Nuke is currently working on a channel version of GeckoOS/Ocarina.  This channel will be properly tested, and will be based on homebrew code.

I think an offical USB Gecko Channel is in the works. I remember Nuke mentioning it a while back.

i have seen an unofficial one around GBATemp.net, elotrolado.net. But I can't give support on this as its unofficial. I.e if if blows up your console please don't moan at us :)

Foxx correct. An official GeckoOS is coming with the next GeckoOS release.

What kind of risk and what would make it "legal" to have it in the Homebrew channel and not as it's own channel?

homebrew channel is legit, and safe. Booting through the homebrew channel is fine.

The only advantage of the 'once released' GeckoOS channel is that it will be quicker to boot and load games. (one less step)

I know, that's pretty much why I wanted to do it since I don't really need the Homebrew channel for anything else mainly because I have a Media PC I made which is hooked via the VGA port of my LCD HDTV.

i installed a version of gecko-os 1.6d colorfix which i found in an other board. installed it with wad-installer and it works like a charm.

i uploaded the wad-file to rapidshare, but use it on your own risk!

Question about the GeckoOS channel, but are you guys also planning on an auto-updater like the HBC? Or would that just take too much bandwidth?
