Title: Homebrew Channel update
Post by: MizzKat on July 27, 2010, 05:44:49 AM
Tonight when i went to install the town file i get an option to update the HBC to 1.0.7. I am assuming since it is from HBC its safe to upgrade from the previous version. This is only for the HBC not the Wii.

Yes, it should be safe to update the Homebrew Channel.  You can read more about the newest version of the HackMii Installer, and the new features, from the following site...

I wouldn't update.  There's no reason to.

All it is is a GUI update. Doesn't even fix some of the wiimote connect issues that are really annoying -.-

5 things per page, plus a tacky dark theme. I'm kinda angry i did update. Although you might like the theme. Personally i liked the old one.

I did updated my HBC channel.
I like new theme, but I think the HBC channel should be skinnable or able to change theme.
so anyone can change theme on HBC easily.

Loving the new dark theme.  I agree that the option to use custom skins would be awesome :)

Also, to those that may have had crashes when launching an app to fast after the HBC has loaded - this seems to have been fixed now :)
No more having to wait a few seconds before launching anything incase it crashes lol I've tried launnching an app as fast as I could after it starts and, as of yet, I've had ZERO stalls or black screens.

Top notch, guys!

I just downloaded the update today.  For some strange reason, now, I cannot access the HBC via the boot-up screen, but I can access it through the HBC in the main Wii menu.  BTW, I have 4.2U.  Is this happening with anyone else?  I had to actually unplug my Wii to turn it off because of this.  The screen became black and the Wii remote was turned on, but it just stayed a black screen.

Is it because of the title id change for this new HBC (vs the older one)? Perhaps any application that calls HBC through its title id needs to be updated.

Do you have BootMii as boot2 and/or Priiloader installed?  If you have either one installed, is it updated to the latest version?  As stated above me, the newest version of the Homebrew Channel uses a different Title ID than the older versions.  For example, if you were to update the Homebrew Channel, and not BootMii as boot2 (assuming that you have it installed), it would no longer load to the Homebrew Channel.  All the older versions of BootMii search for the Title ID of either HAXX or JODI, which no longer exist.  Priiloader is probably the same way.

Wow, I didn't think about that, but I'm really glad I didn't update from inside HBC now, because I have bootmii/boot2...I guess I really have to run the Hackmii installer, huh?

you can change the channel ID via "Ewes".
just dump the new hbc and open the wad file with it.
change ID to HAXX and install it again via wad manager ;)

Doesn't the Homebrew Channel updater load the HackMii Installer, or does it just update the Homebrew Channel?  I've never updated through the Homebrew Channel, so I don't know what it updates.

Anyway, yeah, if you were to update just the Homebrew Channel, and leave BootMii at its previous version, it would not be able to load to the latest version of the Homebrew Channel, since it would look for the JODI TitleID.  The same would be true if you were to update BootMii to its latest version, and not update the Homebrew Channel.

As for homebrew applications, a lot of them have the option to "Return to Loader," or something like that.  They can reload to any version of the Homebrew Channel, the Front SD ELF loader, Wii Homebrew Launcher, etc.

If you do that with the newer versions of the Homebrew Channel, you will get the scam screen every time that you boot it.  In addition, the Homebrew Channel may also be flipped upside-down.

I did the update through the HBC update option.

I assume that it downloaded the Hackmii installer and executed it.  I was able to not only update the HBC, but also Bootmii itself.
I've still had zero problems after this method and not sure if it even needed to install anything as an IOS (what would be the best way to check that?).

For the record, I'm still on System Menu v3.1.  No custom IOS and run all new games through GeckOS, allowing it to install any missing IOS as needed.
