Title: Gecko OS says "Applying Codes" but does not!
Post by: cydp3 on July 04, 2010, 03:23:01 PM
Hey Everyone!

Yesterday, I downloaded Gecko OS 1.9.3.1 from the Homebrew Channel.
I got some codes for Wii Play (RHAP01) and Call of Duty:Modern Warfare Reflex (RJAP52) and tried them out.
None of them worked, Gecko said "Applying Codes" but when I played the game none of the cheats worked.
I'm using the "Ocarina Cheat Code Manager" and following alll instructions on the tutorials I found on youtube.
I've checked the ID of both games and that the codes I am using are for my region (PAL).
I've seen that lots of people seem to have the same problem on different forums but none of their solutions work.

I'm just wondering if any of you have any solutions to my problem.
Thanks,
Cydp3

I can remember having problems getting codes for Wii Play (PAL) to work, too, long ago.
GeckOS also told me that it was applying codes, yet there appeared to be result in this (one of the codes I remember trying was 99 tanks on the tank game)

I can also remember having a similar problem with SSBB.  It applied the codes...yet some of them would not work.

I haven't looked back at my problem due to losing interest and not having *real* internet.

Now, with COD, I have found all my codes to work.  They have all been my own codes since I had purchased a USB Gecko some time back.
I know for a fact that the hook required for any code to work is the OSSleepThread hook.  I am also a PAL user so maybe give that a try.
I'll have a quick look back at Wii Play if I get the chance and try using a few other hooks to see if it makes a difference now.

But, have a check yourself and see if changing to hook method works.  If anybody else can provide a solution then I'll also be grateful.

I'll have a fresh look at Wii Play and try things out using my Gecko when I get the chance.

Yes I've seen that lots of people have had problems with wii play. I'll try and see if changing hook types work. Thanks!

Are you sure that you selected the codes in the cheat manager (with the checkbox in front of them)?

The original Gecko OS does not warn if the hook was not patched. You check if the hook is patched with Gecko OS mod, if the hook is not patched with it, it should say it. Remember to use the same hook though.

Ok I got it working! ;D
I downloaded Gecko OS Mod and put my hook type on "OSSleepThread".
Thanks everyone for their help!

WiiPower - do you know what version of Gecko OS Mod you forked?  If it's an older version then cydp3 should probably switch back to the latest Gecko OS and switch it to the right hook.

It's based on Gecko OS 1.07 or whatever was the last version before 1.8.  You are right the latest Gecko OS should work here when selecting the same hook. But i heard a lot about the latest Gecko OS being unstable and unable to play Brawl+, so i don't know if that's the best choice. Also i added some stuff to it the official version doesn't have, like it does play Sam & Max and CSI, it allows to apply Country String patching and it has video mode patches. Ok, on the other hand it doesn't load the correct IOS => Rock Band, Monster Hunter Tri etc won't work.

 I kinda of have the same problem but the Problem I'm having id running codes for VC games. Two in particular. Mega Man 4 and Comix Zone. Every other game with codes seem to work just fine including Wii games, wiiware and most VC games. But just these two I am having problems with. Both codes for these games are done by ZiT. They say it applies the code but no result. I kept the hooks on Default for the sheer fact that maybe the Gecko Os will know which Hooks to use.

If any one has came across this issue or is it just me...? :'(

I know the thread is a bit old, but I am having issues too..

If I do some 'test' cheats using the wii sports and the wii resort, it works, but I am trying to use House of the Dead overkill and only the grenade cheat works, nothing else, no matter which hook I use, I have used 1.9.01 and 1.9.3.1. I will try to use/find Gecko OS 1.07 and go from there.

Wii 4.2u
Only softmods are homebrew channel and gecko.

I ended up downloading a 100% save game and am running from the beginning using mini gun and shot gun, but would love to know the issue of why it is not working.

Thanks all
GR

I have trouble with MegaMan 4 (FFNE) as well, using the same codes by ZiT.  Gecko OS says "Applying Codes", but there are no effects.  Other VC games I have tried worked.  My theory is that the VC games released this recently must have some anti-Gecko protection.

I tried Ossleepthread as hook for MegaMan 4 FFNE, codes are applied, but still no effect.

I just checked Zits codes, maybe they move or something or maybe being made on a Jpn wii made the difference, On the Inf health I got

Inf Health (ported from Zit)
003E1630 0000009C

Moon Jump (ported from Zit)
2822608A FEFF0100
003E1970 00000004
E0000000 80008000

Infinite Energy (ported from Zit)

Infinite Lives (ported from Zit)

Infinite Tank (ported from Zit)
003E1622 00000009

Invincible (ported from Zit)
003E15BC 00000023

if these work for you just sub 100DE0 from zits codes and don't worry about porting the button activator in Zits Moon Jump, thats fine.

edit: I've already ported them for you. let me know if they now work for you, so they can be put on the database if needed. All Credit still goes to Zit.
