Title: Gecko unable to detect SD codes
Post by: watsonsword on June 29, 2010, 01:33:28 AM
I use Gecko 1.9.3.1 on a native 4.2U Wii modded with Dop-Mii v12 (which I needed in order to enable channel loading).

I'm trying to play Final Fantasy IV: The After Years with a .gct cheat. Gecko loads The After Years just fine, but with a 'No SD Codes Found' message at the loadscreen.

Before you ask:
a: The SD card is plugged in properly and not locked.
b: I am using all proper pathways, IDs, and extensions (SD:\codes\WF4E.gct).
c: SD Cheat is enabled.
d: I've used every single hook available.
e: I used codemanager 1.2 to create the .gct file and used it properly (enabling all cheats and with the proper NTSC game id).
f: The codes I used are supposed to be for the NTSC version--they were user created--.
g: I'm playing a legit version of the game.

One clue as to why this might be happening...
The latest Gecko OS is supposed to have a built in code manager to convert text files in SD:\txtcodes\ into .gct files in SD:\codes\. I remember seeing this feature before, but now it appears to be missing. Yes, I do have txtcodes folder in the SD root, containing the text file. Here's that file in case something's wrong with it.

I don't know where you got that bit about a built in code manager but I don't think it's ever even considered for Gecko OS..

Do codes work for other games? Do they work for other VC games?

And just in case: You have to specifically select something in Code Manager to create the gct from the selected codes.

About the built in code manager: I could've sworn I've used it before. But then again that was almost a week ago so my memory about that could well be flawed.

About uncredited codes: I'm sorry about that. I was getting so impatient with this situation that I posted without reading any of the stickies. though I thank you for letting me off with a warning. Here they are again with proper credit.

Third, I'm sorry if I sounded arrogant. I assure you again that was just impatience.

Finally, I just found a new symptom. The After Years is the only Wiiware/VC game I have so far. I was thinking about testing it on Resident Evil 4, but I have a distinct feeling it won't work there either.
I was playing around with the config, just trying to see what I can do, and when I go to save config, I get a 'No SD card detected' message on the config menu. This happens if the SD card is locked or unlocked. It doesn't make any sense because Gecko is on the SD card!

huh.. I really don't know why that could be.. Do you have another SD card to test it with?

I fixed it! You're statement about testing with another SD card gave me an idea, and it worked.

It occurred to me that back when I was a wii modding noob--all of a week ago--I was constantly tinkering with the SD card, adding and removing many features, in many different ways, many times over. In the process I must've either corrupted or lost a critical file, or in some other way screwed up the card. Considering some of the things I did those first three days, I'm surprised I didn't brick the Wii.

So I reformatted the SD card, recreated the gct file online, and reloaded Gecko and Dop-Mii--which for some reason I can't fathom, I deleted after using--into apps. It's now loading with the codes, and the codes work!
