Title: WiiRD dump loops
Post by: Frozz on August 22, 2008, 06:57:30 PM
I recently got a USB Gecko and it worked perfectly a while, but now, it's not behaving alright, and this is the second day i'm using it.

When i start Gecko OS through HBC, Gecko OS will normally find the USB Gecko, but when i start WiiRD, Gecko OS boots the game och some few seconds the runs fine if i use autorun, but when the timer at the top of the window hits zero, the game freezes and WiiRD is stuck in a dumping loop:

> dump "test.bin" 80001800 80001806
Dumping 80001800 to 80001806 to file: test.bin
Dumping.Return value 2 while asking for status!
Resetting USB Gecko device driver!
Connection resetted!
> dump "test.bin" 80001800 80001806

Could somebody help me please, this problem is driving me nuts and i cannot use my new USB Gecko. :(

I have tried both Excite Truck and Brawl, and both of them have worked before without a problem. And i'm using a PAL Wii with PAL games.

So are both of these two games causing the crash now? That's kinda strange..

I think it's not only those games that will cause this, I think every game will, but i have not confirmed it.
EDIT: Same problem with Super Mario Galaxy

Yes, it is in slot B and i have not a GameCube card in slot A.
I suspect that the problem is the driver, but i don't have access to the CD.
Is there any other way to uninstall the current driver or do somebody know where i can download the driver unistaller?

Thanks, but sadly that didn't help.
I saved a log of the WiiRD if that can be of any help:

EDIT: Maybe i should explain what happens when i try to run a game. It boots as it should and if i turn on auto launch it will run a few seconds, but when WiiRD's counter hits zero, the games pauses because WiiRD want to dump some memory but can't do that due to some unknow factor.

EDIT2: After a night it working again! Maybe the USB Gecko need to rest too.

Bump, i think i have found the problem.
It's not the USB Gecko, it's not the game and it's not the driver.
It's the folder.
When i tried to use the wiirdw32.exe app i was able to hook, pause an resume the game, but not able to dump, which is when it writes data to the folder.

At least i think this is the problem. Does anybody know any way to fix this?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it has stopped working and that the peek command was working too.

Are you using the new version of WiiRD?

Either way, press the home button (on the wii remote) before touching anything in the WiiRDgui and see if you can take a dump.
lol

Yes, i'm using the new version of WiiRD.

Yes, it worked!
But sadly, the game crashed when i was about to start it after a dump. It was dumping okey but when i pressed run it crashed. Maybe there is something wrong with my USB Gecko.

Try clicking "show wiird" and type "run" in the console. Maybe that'll help..

what OS are you running? It could be bugs in the new WiiRD release. Ive already found a few. Im liking the earlier release myself.

The old one is still online.. http://wiird.l0nk.org/wiird-pbeta.rar

The main problem with the old one is the fact that unfortunately it boots into an immediate crash on Windows Vista x64 or Windows Server 2008 x64. I tried installing Delphi 6 (which was used by kenobi to compile the GUI) on these platforms but it seems to be unable to handle them forcing me to install Delphi 2006. While Delphi 2006 was able to compile the code just fine it brings new features and unfortunately also new bugs.

What I personally like to always ask for: bug reports WHATEVER happens.. so for example the newest release I did has some new bug fixed which was related to the memory viewer: the problem was simple, for some reason the text mode was set to right to left - and Delphi 6 didn't have complete support for that yet, while Delphi 2006 has and well.. it showed memory data backwards. Kinda annoying!

The bug you experience is defenitely not WiiRd GUI related! And the console has always been built with Delphi 2006 and there were no changes to the dump command done! All I did was adding PAL50 support which was kinda overdue as Gecko OS had support for this for long. The GUI was also simply adjusted to support it but that's all. Dump commands were never changed.

My recommendations are:
-check your USB Gecko with another PC or notebook.. try it on another USB port.. and well, believe it or not, I had problems when I was putting the cable under tension.. if it's hanging loose things are working much better for me! Otherwise a simple enlongement would do the job.

Please tell a little bit about your PC configuration. Please note that officially Windows 2000 and XP are supported, I know that Windows 98 and ME did run in my tests but I can't offer complete support. For Vista: we would like to have it supported though there seem to be many problems on Vista with both the console and the GUI and we currently do not have too good in-sight information on these problems.

And as mentioned: please always do bug reports, things like "Can I have the old version" neither help kenobi, me nor you! We are interested in fixing everything, we really are!

I am on win xp sp1 and I have long usb cable.
I installed latest driver manually thru device manager.
the one that I got from usbgecko download area.

what happened is that the wiirdgui runs and stuck in a loop.
I cant change tabs or click on buttons.

I run wiirdw32.exe and I was able to get a screen capture ok.

wiirdgui is only problematic here.

How can I kill wiirdw32.exe from my process list?
I wonder if it is causing that problem.
I tried killing it by many ways.

If you're running wiirdw32.exe using WiiRd GUI (meaning you open the GUI), the GUI will try everything to not allow wiirdw32.exe to be killed.. the GUI and the console have to be killed together.

For mouse:

Please save your console log and lemme have a look at it!
