Title: Worried an issue might be "brewing" with Gecko OS/HBC
Post by: elmoreas on February 23, 2010, 06:54:14 PM
Everytime I load a game with Gecko OS, no matter how many cheat codes or how few, or the size of the saved game file; Slowly over time it is taking longer and longer for the black screen to go away (after load game is selected on Gecko OS) and for the game to start. Also I have issues with the Wiimote disconnecting during the loading and having to be turned back on, not resynced but turning on and off. I am wondering if something is slowly going wrong with Gecko OS/HBC and these are just syptoms of an upcoming issue. Anyone ever had this problem and did it continue to get worse or stabilize? What did you do to fix it? Should I be concerned and if so what should I do from here? Thanks for your help in advance. Have a good one all. Later.

P.S. Oh yeah and every so often after using code manager, when I return to HBC the hand icon is upside down and the x and y axis' movement is reversed. Possibly another symptom?

I have similar issues but that is just the HBC in general. GeckoOs, Wad Manager Sexy Poker, etc.
It usually happns to me because my system is overheating

Overheating?!? That is not something I wanted to hear. Man this unit has a Turbo Internal Cooling fan, and a Very powerful external rear cooling fan plus a cooling fan stand all of which are on when I use it and when it is in standby mode. It is in a well ventilated area and the ambient temp in the house is 65 F, what else can I possibly do other than not use the Wii to keep it cool and stop this? Also do you think the overheating is to the point that damage is being done? Thanks for your help in advance.

Sincerely,
Elmoreas

Do you keep storing more and more files in your SD card (that has geckoos)?

Sometimes, after I clean-up the content of SD card, i could get better response/loading time when
running wiibrew applications.

It could be that, the SD card has a lot of WW/VC games on it. I will test a second stripped down card and see if it loads slow or not. If it doesn't then great it is just file size and I can live with the wait, as there is not much to clean up on the card. But if it still loads slow then it could be heat or something else. I will give it a test and see what happens. Thanks for the advice. Talk to you all later.

Seriously? You mean like in standby with Wiiconnect24 or do you mean it is actually ON 24/7 for 2 weeks straight? Mine has been on in standby mode or ON when I am using it for 4-5 months, but it is never ON for more than 5-6 hours and that is with me there playing it, and that is rare enough. Usually it is on for a hour tops and then I have to do something else and off it goes, well ermm standby. If that yours has been on that long then my slowdown is definately not heat related as it doesn't come close being on that long, plus it has the extra external cooling fans. My slowdown must be due to file size or some other cause. If it has just been in standby then it could be heat on my Wii. I am going to test a small stripped down card just to see if it is file size, but I am curious about what you mean by on for 2 weeks? That could help me figure out if my issue is heat or not. Thanks for the help.

Still happens with a stripped down smaller SD card. All that was on it was Gecko OS, Code Manager, Code Folder w/1 gct file, txtcode folder w/1 file, bootmii, config folder w/txt file, installation txt file, and one WW game w/save in private folder. All of it fit on a 512Mb card with tons of room to spare, and it still happened on both the WW game and disc based games, so I am at a loss as to what is the cause. I tried unplugging it all night and turning the air down to 58F in the house so it would be cool on start up and it did it first thing so it cannot be heat either. Anyone else have any other suggestions as to the possible cause? I have not installed any new apps for a very long time or any mods either. Just codes and DLC games/saves. Thanks for your help in advance.

It is possible that the Wiimote is glitching and needs to be reset.  Try taking the batteries out of your Wiimote, press one of the buttons on the Wiimote (to drain any remaining charge), and then put the batteries back in.

Ok that fixed the Wiimote disconnect issue and the inversion after code manager is common from what I hear so that just leaves the central mystery of the ever increasing load times for Gecko OS. Hmmm... Not heat, not file size, not software/mod conflict, what else is there that it could be? I can live with it for now but when it hits 10 mins I am going to go nuts I swear and I am at 4 mins now.  ;) jk Well whatever it is, it doesn't seem as serious as I first thought so for now I will live with it and see what happens. Thanks for the advice all. If anyone comes up with any other ideas as to a cause/fix please let me know. Later.
