Title: Can't use load channel option :(
Post by: Tallgeese3 on January 19, 2010, 09:46:32 AM
Hi all. I'm very new to the wii homebrew scene (started last week but I've modded my ps2 and psp before) so please bear with me!

Setup-
Gecko os(1.9.01)
Code manager (1.2)
wii (4.2u)[upgraded from 3.4u using dop-ios mod]
ios36 (trucha bugged/es_identify/nand permission) [used dop-ios mod AND TBR 1.1]
HBC (1.0.6) [installed through bannerbomb exploit]
cios 38 (installed as ios 249) [read it might fix problem but didn't]

So I decided to start using the newest gecko os program today. At first I was having trouble just loading codes for SSBB, they just refused to work. I almost gave up but on my 4th attempt(kept changing options and trying new things) I finally got the desired codes to work.

Then I wanted to try to use some codes for FFCC: MLAADL but then I ran into a new problem. Every time I used the load channel function the list of all my channels would appear but whenever I select any of them I would get the same error message:

--------------------
Error loading channel

press b to restart
--------------------

So I been doing some research but there really seems to be a lack of info for my specific problem. With the info I've gathered so far I know it doesn't have anything to do with ios 36. Adding cios 38 had no effect either.

Can anyone enlighten me on how to solve this issue? Thanks for reading!!!

Debunked Soulutions:

1. Install cios 38.

2. Make ios 36 trucha/es/nand bugged.

3. Pray to jeebus.

edit 1: revised to reflect changes I've done

I think this (http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/index.php/topic,4541.0.html) topic can help you a bit.

Just wondering, wouldn't Dop IOS just be as good? That's what I used yesterday, and it's working fine for me. It was really simple as well.

Yeah, that should work.
I guess...

Well, it just seems as though the other way is complex, not that I've tried it. I just assumed. It's seems like it's more than a:

for i as integer = 1 to 20
call Click(sender,e)
next
Debug.Print("Done Clicking!")

Simple clicking.  :p

Well I looked inside the topic you suggested romaap. In their cases it seems that they were missing the lauch channel completely where I on the other hand have it, it just refuses to work. I even watched a youtube video posted in the topic which used TBR to downgrade ios 15 to trucha sign ios 36. I decided to follow it anyway seeing as how TBR is nearly identical to dop ios mod but it still didn't solve the problem. Leads me to believe when you are missing a trucha bugged 36 ios you will have the load channel missing issue which is not the problem I'm having.

It's not the fact that the IOS is fakesigned or the trucha bug inside the IOS that matters for channel launching.

You need the fakesign bug inside the IOS(that's not the same as a fakesigned IOS!) if the IOS needs to accept fakesigned channels. If you want to launch unmodified nintendo channels, you don't need the trucha bug inside the IOS.(well in theory, i think Gecko OS checks the channel launching capability with something fakesigned)

You need the ES_Identify capability inside the IOS if you need to identify as a channel or the system menu. That's THE important patch for channel launching.

You might need patched nand permissions too. This depends on how Gecko OS accesses the files on nand to launch channels. If it could assume the IOS has the nand permissions patched, the code is very easy and uncomplicated.

Summary: If you want to launch channels from Gecko OS, your best shot is to patch all 3 features into IOS36.

Taken from - http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Trucha_Bug_Restorer
    Gecko OS 1.9.3:

If the installed IOS36 is patched with the trucha patch and the ES_Identify patch, it will allow launching channels with Gecko OS thus allow using cheats on VC&WiiWare. It should also allow using Gecko OS' rebooter.

So anyway, according to this its only the trucha/es_identify patch needed not nand permissions. Also its the default option to trucha bug/es identify 36 when you use dop ios mod/TBR so the chances of that being the problem for anybody who uses those programs is slim. Meaning everything you just said is..... useless. Thanks for trying tho. On a side note there's the famous phrase of THe blind leading the blind that you should probably look into before trying to help anyone else.

Your are really a really funny guy. That's the best laugh of the day.

When i wrote the text at WiiBrew i assumed Gecko OS does not need patched nand permissions and uses ES_Idenitfy to be able to access the files of the selected channel. But since i did not look at it, i can only say that patched nand permissions won't harm and some channel loaders would require it.

Well when I read that info I didn't bother to read the actual author so that's why I responded like that. Apologies if I offended you in any way. Mildly interesting coincidence to say the least though.

Though the problem still remains.... Am I seriously the only one who has this problem? I guess everyone is afraid to upgrade to 4.2 :/ (which I assume is the cause of this problem now).

This is not true, I'm running 4.2, and I had this same problem. I use Dop Ios mod, and it's working fine for me. However, you might be the only one experiencing this problem. I was upgraded to 4.2U from MKW.
