anyone heard about the 2012 theroy? :(
Which one?
There are dozens of them :P
But anyway, i don't believe the world is going to end because those Maya's couldn't count up to higher than 2012 :P
Yup it's all lies from a bunch of religious wackos! yah those Mayans have an IQ less than their shoe size if they wore shoes?! lol :)
There beliefs aren't concrete enough to say it's true. But I wouldn take my chances though :(
I mean that all there theories doesn't make sense really :-\

...or maybe they just got tired quit counting on 2012. I certainly wouldn't waste my time counting thousands of years into the future, heck, I won't even be there so why keep counting! xD
I don't believe it, but it's still quite intimidating. :(
I agree. it sound like something out of a 1950's sci-fi movie. :P

Or like a kick-ass movie which is in Cinema now :D
Is it that awsome of a movie :)
The whole thing is just another drama! if it is to end why cant it end in 2010?lolz >:D
It looks so real when i saw the commercial about it
It probably is a wicked movie. :D

or mabey they ran out of ink?
Ink? :p
I though it was because they suddenly became lazy. :D
which would result in stopping at dec 21 2012.
Maybe they ran out of space to write on the year 2012?
That dosen't sound logical :-\
But I really dont think it matter why they stop at 2012. :p
I thought the world would end at the milenium of 3000 or something :p :p :p
Or they thought it would be fun to scare the people from the future :)
Why else would they 'choose' 20 12 2012 as the last day? :P
......................to be honest i really dont find MASS hysteria funny. :-\
But you could be right, it all depends when that day comes. ::)
Bah! Maybe they just stopped on that date cause they knew people would go crazy with doomsday hype xD
Whatever, if it happens, it happens. Just enjoy your life.
Agreed! ;)
i watched a documentry they dont think it will end in 2012 but they do belive not long after as the fact of planet X they said magnifying the suns rays and reversing the earths magnetic pull ( i dont belive this still but this is wat i heard in the documentry on the history channel)
They got lazy; I would get lazy too if I didn't have a computer to make these things O0
the mayan belief is that the world restarts approximately every 5 thousand years. this world in there long dead eyes is the 5th iteration of the world. on december 24 2011 is the "adjusted" date of the end of the mayan calender. after that we are in the 6th world.
i wonder if we will be reincarnated if the 2012 theories happen. :p i mean if we do die will we be reincarnated. :(
i mean it would go as a regular day in dec.20,2012, then on the 21st..... WTF! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
lol there wouldnt be a world to live on if that happened remember?
yeah i know :P
Maybe they were all gypsys and they casted a spell on the world.
it bull@#$% i think only Gods knows about not the man really i always believe he's the creator of all and well if for example i create an mii (what an example lol lol lol) and i want to deleted well i deleted it and thats that just like God can do with everything and yes i know not everyone believes this but well....
I think they just died before they could finish,
i can picture it. there was only one OLD dude that could count.... he died, they gave up LOL
Reminds me of the whole Y2k thing.
Maybe they hacked the earth's ram and are gonna dump the memory in Dec. 2012............ Just a thought :D
................................ :(
wow :(
perhaps it's a curse. :-\
Yes, i have seen the movie. But your calendar should end on A day. I mean, you can't make a calendar for each year because there is no end. You can go to 9999999999 and you're still not clear. So i don't believe this. I have heard too that this was the same story with 2000.
Y2K was a stupid rumor and it sounded like it wouldn't happen.
2012 is a month i hope nothing will happen.although it should end in a day. but which day of what year should the world end? (in my opinion, the world shouldn't end)
2012 is a stupid excuse for a movie
you know that this myth was told by the NASA it seems.. because of an asteroid which is coming towards earth...well all i can think of is the NASA is going crazy...
Everyone's crazy. :o
all these rumors of the fucking world ending is getting on my damn nerves
why would anyone come up with such stupid rumors any way without proof. >:(
*sighs and groans* >:( what does it matter i wont get an answer or at least a sensible one :(
anyways i think the movie is a spoof of the day after tommorow :-\
And what would you suppose we do if the astreroid theory was true. how can we prevent something like that from happening. :-\
I just won't understand why people want to know if the world will be destroyed or not. i think that we shouldn't worry if the rumors aren't true. :(
I'm athiest, and don't believe in the 2012 rumor. But scientist have tracked an asteriods path to hit us in 2036 (or 2042, I don't remember which one).
Well I just really hope it deosn't happen, which I don't think it will anyways.

Why does religion exist? (Same question)
A meteor hitting the Earth is very possible. Is it possible by 2012? Of course not. If it was, the exact meteor that will hit would have been detected by now and we'd all be "scared".

actually the chance is VERY small... i learned about that this year in school :p

lol. its possible. think back to the dinosaurs. what happened then?
look, chap, simple physics.
the bigger an object is, the more mass it has.
a neuton law: force (of object) = mass(of object) X(times) acceleration(of object).
the meteor might have such a strong force that the Sun's gravitational pull may have little to no effect on it, thus allowing possible crash into a nearby planet.
I think what you may be referring to is if its possible within our lifetime. Well, I don't think it is in this century nor the next. ^-^
I just watched that movie.. It was so so so so so stupid. The last 1/4 of it was bearable though.

From what scientists can tell, the meteor will be about 1/4 the size of the earth. It will be going to fast to be affected much by the suns gravity. A meteor like that would wipe out the enter earth in a matter of seconds.
Ways to avoid it: We are trying to make some kind of a molecular rope and use another asteroid to alter our orbit. That confuses me how that would work, but, I don't know.

solution to meteor(solution to everything): EXPLOSIVES!
Days before the meteor hits:
World leaders: You can't kill us! We will kill ourselves!!! EXPLOSIVES!
-The meteor never gets a chance-
Epic win for world leaders. :p

They didn't let the meteor destroy the earth... It had nothing to do, just in response to romaaps post.

link to source, I would love to know how the f*** they figured that out. Do you know the odds of that? about the same as throwing 2 grains of sand up in the air and both hitting. Oh wait, that's the sun and a meteor the same size hitting... we're not even a spec in the milky way, let alone the universe (the universe has at least 1,000,000 galaxies [and galaxies have billions of stars])
To add to what you said, the Earth has an atmosphere, so the chances are probably cut in half.
Well, meteors have hit the Earth before. And one will probably hit again at some point in time even if it isn't 2042. As for the link, it was a video we watched during physics... probably copy righted somewhere, but I don't know. I could just be B.S. and I don't know how scientists can see so far into future paths of objects. But somehow astronomers can send vehicles to pluto that won't land for like a billion years. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. I don't know, and it doesn't seem reasonable to me, but scientists would know.
-I know that this post sounds really flakey without a link. ::)

What grade physics? and name of video?
THEY STILL TEACH PHYSICS IN SCHOOL?? ?? ?? >:( >:(
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
lol. 8th grade physics last year. Name of the video... We used a program called Celestia (don't know how to spell it). I want to think that it was the intro video when we first started using it. Celestia lets you take your space craft and fly around to different places in the galaxy. From the moon, to places you don't really know. Our class just screwed around though... didn't use it properly. XD

Well this year in gr 9 scince we were talking about it, and well..... the earth will end. In 5 billion years. Sun go BOOM. And we were also talking about how people were saying that NASA was saying the world was going to end, and guess what? We watched a press confrence (live stream [I think]) of somebody from nasa stating that all the talk was fake.

They Can't Prove that :D
Matt needs to believe.
It is VERY possible for a meteor to hit Earth.
Life on Earth can end from a meteor hitting. Earth WILL be completely destroyed when the sun goes out. Before it happens, it'll expand, its gravitational pull will increase. It will drag planets into it and they will burn along with it.
The way scientists detect far away objects such as planets or meteors are with electromagnetic waves. a radio wave, to be exact, since its the biggest electromagnetic wave. e.m waves travel at approximately 185,000 miles per second.
so, basically, there is some "thing" that sends the wave and if it bounces back, it is an object. send one again, if the time to receive it was shorter/longer than previous, it is moving.
well we all have to go at some time or anther why not all at the same time. www.space.com/spacewatch/space_junk.html you can go to NASA web site and track it, its kinda fun to see.
Why go at all. PERIOD >:(
(that does not include old age. that's inevitable)

I do know it is possible, but it is VERY unlikely (my reasoning is in my other post). I also know that the sun will go out, and that the planet will be destroyed (again, stated in my other post), and another thing...
The electromagnetic waves would be a horrid way of telling if something is getting close, due to all the interference from the "original" electromagnetic waves (witch were given off at the big bang, and were so powerful that they are still around today [fun fact: the static on the radio, and the static on your television is from those exact electromagnetic waves])
(ill keep most my thoughts to myself.. or ill get shot)
but i highly doubt the 2012 theory is remotely true... i mean honestly.. we are hackers lol. if anything yet.. we know some of the numbers that appear to do something.. are an absolute dead end lead.
also if anything else.. why bother continuing to write on the calendar? just because it ends doesnt necessarily mean anything.. honestly if anything else id use it as a "ok its good enough for now.. we will improve on it later" type thought.. but eh. whatever, i find it interesting what all "theories" come out every few years about the end of the world ;) its fun lol
the calendar doesn't end anyways, it starts over.
:P so whats the big deal? lol
My point :D
