Title: Game DVD Detected in Wii Menu but not in Gecko OS
Post by: 2link121 on September 06, 2009, 10:00:42 PM
Hello, I started a thread here earlier about how my copy of NTSC Brawl randomly gave 'No DVD' errors in both the wii menu and Gecko OS and amazingly since around mid June it started working again in both areas for some reason directly after I installed IOS55 to play LoZ: Majora's Mask. Now at this time the same problem has reappeared in Gecko OS where after having it load the game it gave a 'No DVD' error. But this time the Wii menu has absolutely no problem detecting brawl. the problem is specifically happening in Gecko OS now. I've tried 1.70b, 1.91, and 1.92 and all give a 'No DVD' error while the wii menu detects brawl just fine. One thing I'm wondering was I remember reading in the 1.91 changelist that games that use IOS36 won't require a second spinup on selecting the option to load the game yet when I tried both 1.91 and 1.92 Gecko OS respins the DVD drive even after I waited in the wii menu for brawl to be detected before going to Gecko OS. Is there a problem maybe with my IOS36? should I maybe reinstall a fresh copy?. Also is it possible in the future to have an option in Gecko OS to have the program not perform a second drive spin regardless of the IOS the game happens to use?

The not spinning twice was before using IOS249 for various stuff. If you delete IOS249, the lastest Gecko OS should only spin SSBB once. But if that makes the game work, i don't know.

CIOS 249 does not haave dual-layered disc support for backup disks. I believe it may have the very same problem with original discs.

However, I'm not sure if/why GeckoOS would use CIOS for a perfectly normal game in the first place.

1. cIOS rev8+ support Dual Layer. In rev14 it's broken, but will be fixed eventually.
2. Gecko OS uses IOS249 for various stuff if you have that installed, that's why the IOS needs to be reloaded. The latest svn version has a change related to this to Gecko OS 1.9.2, but i don't know if that will change anything.
3. When using a cIOS, you can't tell the difference between retail and copy disc, that's how and why it works.
