Alright, well i got my wii about 1 week after it came out, in which case i would use boot2, ive seen videos on youtube of someone bricking their wii and bootmii saving it, so is boot2 brick proof? and one more question i installed bootmii, and it works and all that, but do i need to do a backup just in case it bricks? or am i fine where i am?
Thanks O0

Currently, BootMii in fact makes your Wii brick proof in case you can install it as boot2 and make a bacup of your NAND.. however: BootMii can be overwritten by Nintendo (theoretically)!
I've always been wondering if you have to make a backup.
Is BootMii (and mini) able to reload IOS or do they go through the System Menu? If so couldn't you simply start the Homebrew Channel and re-install/fix whatever is broken (unless it's the IOS HBC uses or a hardware error, of course).

BootMii as boot2 is on the boot record of your Wii - so it starts long before the System menu is started.. and ONLY IN THAT way BootMii secures your console.. in case you install BootMii as IOS to launch it via HBC (you can do both boot2 and HBC installation in optimal cases) it won't be of any protection.
BootMii as boot2 - if BootMii as boot2 does not work.. then your Wii can be bricked by a malformed update!
Yes, I know. (I'm one of the geeks who likes bushing's "nerd"-posts).
However it seems you misunderstood my question (or I wasn't clear enough).
I meant that since every homebrew (except BootMii) need to use a specific IOS to run, was wondering if BootMii (as boot2) and mini are able to reload into a real IOS for homebrew to run off.
Example: Let's say I screwed the System Meny but everything else is fine. Can I via BootMii boot directly into a homebrew (i.e. anyregion changer) or the HBC letting mini reload into the IOS needed for the app, or does it use the System Meny to load a standard IOS and then reload via that?
Edit: I forgot that the System Menu uses an IOS too. That means this shouldn't be any problems right? I shouldn't have to make a complete backup in case I'm just fiddling with the Menu (I don't have a big enough card free at the moment).
Ok, i have a couple other questions:
1. In a ONE sentence, is Bootmii(boot2) brick proof?
2. What are somethings i should loook out for?(so it doesnt get bricked)
THANKSS!!

No that does not work.. MINI and IOS are different so homebrew using IOS cannot be converted to MINI. BootMii contains a menu to boot homebrew but it cannot switch to IOS.. it only does that if you load homebrew.. I do not know if there are ways to make homebrew which loads MINI like an IOS though it might be possible. A way to get homebrew running using mini you can do:
1) Install HBC and BootMii as IOS
2) Run HBC
3) Home - "Load BootMii"
4) Load MINI based homebrew from the menu there

1) For now yes. But no, Nintendo can patch boot2 so BootMii might be removed by them.
As long as BootMii as boot2 is installed, your Wii is brick proof. If Nintendo overwrites it, your WIi is vulnerable again!!
2) a) Make a backup of your Wii.
b) Once a new system menu or a shop update gets released read about it on wiibrew.org, gbatemp, wiinewz or here... people will warn if it brings danger. DO NOT just update!
I didn't mean that the homebrew should actually use MINI. I wondered if MINI was capable of loading IOS (therefore releasing itself from memory).
I'm talking like how the current IOS can reload a different IOS that the app needs. Can MINI start apps "into" an IOS?

OK, i know that. but how can i make a backup of my wii :o ??? :-\
Using BootMii there is NAND backup/restore buttons in the "options" menu (gear button).
But it's only Brick proof if you can install BootMii as Boot2 (not as IOS).

Mini allows for full control of the ARM CPU which the IOS runs on.. so yes, that should work and I guess BootMii does exactly that when it loads the HBC from the BootMii menu.
