Wait a while... and a bite longer...
Finished!

Yes, to play any backups you must have a modchip installed. And no, there's no softmod out yet
Some People use different burning software i am not going to explain different burning software.
ImgBurn is free Software others are not.
Note: the numbers on the green arrows on the picture 1 to 4. go with the numbers on the instructions.
all input welcome
Please add if you feel there are things missing
update :
To extract a wii game to you hard drive your hard drive has to be in ntfs format not Fat formatted which has a file system restriction to 4GB.
Hi,
I have been using nero which seems to burn fine (no reported errors) however the DVD will not play in the Wii as it doesnt see it. I have received the "checksum mismatch packet 12aab" erros when extracting the DVD to iso format - which I am told doesn't effect the working of the iso however I still dont have a working backup. Is it better to use certain DVD media (currently using Sony Accucore DVD+R) to ensure better results?
cheers
Nero is strait forward to use and it dose burn wii backups ok with Nero if you have problems with Nero slow the burn speed down to x2.
Most people recommend the use of verbatim dvd-r.But i use any that are cheap...But i have a wiikey..
with the checksum mismatch packet 12aab sorry i cant help but some one mite i hope.

That looks like pretty good media, verify the media ID here:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
I used nothing but Taiyo Yuden (G02) for SL and Verbatim for DL (MKM001), the BEST of the BEST. Cheap media only lasts so long, stay away from 3rd class media.
Was your file size 4,589,824 KB (4,699,979,776 bytes) ? If NOT then the iso did not create properly !!
Last would be the errors you are getting, Nuke of another senior would better give details on that !!
PS: Tip on using ImgBurn, you can Drag-n-Drop the .iso on top of section where it says Source, no need to browse. Also Imgbun has a REAL nice Queue feature for burning multiple iso's

IMHO, ImgBurn is far superior to any bloated/purchased SW out there, i.e. Nero. Been using ImgBurn since it's inception, if you do use the tool, please donate to LUK for future development. :)

The checksum mismatch packet 12aab error is a Wasabi mode chip problem.
solut and many other Wasabi users had the problem as you.On the old forms.
solut coded out a workaround for this but he did want feedback but did not get it on the forms people mite of p.m him or emailed him i do not no..
Her is the GC-MODE DUMP2USB v1.0 BETA 1 (http://www.usbgecko.com/GC_DUMP2USB.rar) by solut (

I agree with you Cheap media does only lasts so long but i have lodes of backups of the same game.
Get the BEST of the BEST and you can not get better..:)
sticky 4 u
Thank you Nuke.
I did another extract and burned the iso, this time the Wii recognised the DVD and I thought I was on a winner unfortunately when trying to start the game it said it couldnt read the game disc.
The ISO size is 4,697,640,960 bytes so it looks like it didnt compile completely.
I am using USB Client V1.0 beta five cheat edition, which I could no longer get of the USBGecko site only another 3rd party site - is this the correct version to use or have I missed something?
Also the DVD extract comes under the 'Gamecube Mode Tools' and there isnt anything under the 'Wii Mode Tools' for DVD extraction.
There doesnt seem to be any guides on DVD extraction etc anymore on the USBGecko site. It would be helpful especially for us newbies having a guide on how to extract DVDs and what software to use. There are a few guides floating around however they seemed to be based on various versions etc.
>>Also the DVD extract comes under the 'Gamecube Mode Tools' and there isnt anything under the 'Wii Mode Tools' for DVD extraction.<<
I spent hours trying to find the gecko tools software before finding something that made me realise that that was where it was loaded. (The extraction guide not being there didn't help)
Great tool (so far, still ripping my first disc) but if anyone who can make changes to the website reads this, maybe put the gecko client under a "Wii/GC" category or something like that. It might stop a bit of confusion and frustration.

Adding onto this: Seeing as (presumably) the majority of people buying this are doing it for backups, you might like to ensure that it's in a more noticeable place than WiiRD... I spent more time trying to figure out how to get that to extract DVDs than I'm proud of.
Just an update on how things went:
I decided to try another DVD ripping package and downloaded ImgBurn, to my delight the iso burned and when I tried it in the Wii everything worked fine and this was with an ISO size of 4,697,640,960 bytes. I have extracted another DVD which has the same ISO size and am now in the process of burning it so fingers crossed this works to, however why is the ISO size not apparently correct but still working?
cheers
Hi Memorris or Nuke. I have burned a few back up copies using a Gecko USB which on Verbatim DVD- and they worked perfectly until today. Now the console will only read the original discs and not the back ups. The console cant find the disc and comes up with an error "Unable to read disc" Consult the users manual. Is this a mod chip prob or a consol problem do you think? Thanks

That is the current version I'm using !!
Nuke is working on that Guide and HOPEFULLY it will be posted soon !
Do you have the HomeBrew Channel installed ? I didn't get successful results until I installed it !!
@Nuke,
I think it would be prudent if you had step-by-step instructions on what ALL needs to be installed all in one Guide, i.e. Driver, Client, Loader, HBC .... as far as I know I might even be confused, but I am producing working backups Wii and GC.
Then have a separate guide for DVD Extraction, which I think you are working
I could help, good on making Guides, but short on experience using the tools !!

What changed, if they were working, the same should still work. Did you do anything to the console ? Blow air in the DVD drive ? My guess the lens is either misaligned or something happened to the chip install. Did you do it yourself or premodded ?

Nintendo Wii ISO size: 4.37 GB (4,699,979,776 bytes).
Nintendo Gamecube ISO size: 1.35 GB (1,459,978,240 bytes) One of the GURU's will need to anwser, maybe the game will have a glitch during gameplay if not made correctly, my best guess !!
@Camaban
I see you are frustrated, try not to get to mad .... I know the feeling but it doesn't help the situation. I was in the same boat as you two weeks ago. I just got my Gecko and the forum went down. Now you at least have a place to post your questions ?
I think Nuke is working feverishly on getting the NEW guides posted, be patient. Otherwise read some of the stuff I posted above it might help !

I have now ripped 3 games and all sizes have been ISO size of 4,697,640,960 bytes.
Having now used ImgBurn to burn all the ISOs the DVD is now recognised in the Wii and all 'seem' to play ok without issues. Obviously I cannot sit there and play every game until the end so I am unsure as to whether there arent any 'glitches' but so far so good.
Any advice or suggestions on the ISO size would be greatly appreciated.
cheers
GR8t review! Quick and to the point! :clap
Hi Ice, the chip is a wiiikey and installed professionally, nothing changed so I'm thinking it must be the mod chip, maybe it got too hot during intensive game play. Having it checked out by the installer so hoping its no biggie!
nothing I do will make the extractor work.. all I get is error sending extract DVD command :/.. any ideas?
If anyone read my previous post, my prob was a faulty wii key mod chip, now replaced and all is good!:)
if somebody could help me it would be much appreciated

Your probably running from Wii mode which USB Gecko doesn't support yet. This is due to a restriction in the Wii itself not in the USB Gecko. Gamecube mode doesn't have such restriction.
With the help of Nuke i have put together a Wii ripping package for USB Gecko, I will upload it later on today, once Nuke replies my Private message

thank you mate -
will loading gecko in gamecube mode with the ISO work with version 3.3E??
because to install the twilight hack and homebrew channel i had to use an SD card as the iso was not accepted.
your ripping package sounds very promising by the way !! :irule:
To get in to gamecube mode or play any backups you must have a modchip installed.
Yes it works with version 3.3e??
I tried all that but I can't
