This is very basic, i found that your coords are stored in a grid. the top left hand square is 01/01 and the square to its right is 01/02. 1 square down is 02/02 etc etc
The above code applies to player 0 which is the white bomberman, you die if you walk outside the map or into the non destroyable squares
The following codes work after you pickup a bomb or flame icon, applies to all players so I need to study registers and do a compare so its just a specific person. I'm PAL so not sure if that matters

This is the same on most NES games as well, look at SMB 2 Lost Levels
If you are player 1 then these will give you max on each when you pick up the icon. When CPU picks up the icon it sets theirs to 0 so if they get a bomb icon they can no longer lay bombs and just stand around
