Title: What is Safe to Install?
Post by: Luke Zwekii on June 18, 2009, 07:04:51 PM
I have a few questions (Noob Alert) about what is safe to install on a Wii. I Have HBC on 4.0, and the only apps I have are Gecko OS and M Player CE. Ive seen videos on youtube where you can load games off of a usb drive. First, is it legal, and also, does messing with the Cios run the chance of bricking the Wii. I know all that WAD stuff can brick if its not made correctly. So what really is safe to put on a Wii. Is it ok to go all out, or should I stick to stuff that known groups make like TT stuff.

If you bought your wii before mid 2008 then you could probably install BootMii as boot2, then make a NAND backup.
If you did that then you could go all out and install everything you want, if you brick your Wii no problem just restore the NAND.

Yes, as long as you can install it as boot2, you can basically do whatever you want.  However, if boot1 and/or boot2 get corrupted in any manner, even BootMii as boot2 will not help you.

I suppose BootMii as an IOS could help with some forms of system file corruption.  However, if only installed as an IOS, you will have to be more careful with what you do.
