Title: Disc Channels
Post by: buriedsmiles on May 10, 2009, 02:16:33 AM
Yea i've watched some videos were the people will have one channel like house of the dead overkill, and another one was lost in blue.
How is this possible? Do they hack it or do u need a mod chip? Or a app? Could someone tell me this? It seams like a major convience cause if u loose a game and u want to find it u could just load the channel. Any help?
PS. I needed one for mario kart wii.

Most people cheat.. these are Gecko OS channels without a menu.. or backup loader channels.. you need to press - so that the menu appears.. but those are no real disc channels per se

Yes it is from the USB Loader I think, and it should run the game featured in the channel right away off the USB storage device you have hooked up, instead of entering a menu and selecting it.
that is what i heard.

Oh wait.. yeah, now I know.. he meant a channel like Metroid.. and load.. and you're in.. yes: .dol and .elf files may take parameters.. like command line parameters every windows .exe or Linux binary can take. These channels are simple wrappers of the usb backup loader. They simply contain a mini binary (boot.dol) which loads a modified USB Loader from somewhere else (some even from sd card). HOwever as this USB Loader is modified it is taking some parameters.. so to load Super Mario Galaxy it would do something like this:

1) Make a USB HD backup of the disc (RSBP01 - Mario Galaxy PAL)
2) Copy opening.bnr from the disc - use this as WAD banner
3) Now make the mini WAD loader which contains boot.dol which loads "usbloader.dol RSBP01" from SD card
4) Wrap banner and mini loader into a WAD
5) Install WAD..

Done!
