Title: I am so completely lost
Post by: keldia on April 23, 2009, 03:33:31 AM
I've spent the last 8 hours reading all kinds of posts on the forums, But I still am having trouble figuring out how to make this work. What I am trying to do on it is run backup gamecube disc's and cheat in them. Through either Ocarina / WiiRd / Action Replay

I have the following already:

I have a Wii running 3.4U, its already got the HBC installed and running MIOS v4, I can launch backups from the main menu of the Wii, and sucessfully run the original Action Replay disc.

I own an SD Gecko but not a USB Gecko. I have SDGecko + SDLoader setup correctly to run Dol files in gamecube mode. I have just about every file I think I need to do this: Ocarina, HBC, gc106d.dol, WiiRd 0.9.3, Code Manager 1.1, AR to WiiRD .9, Gecko 1.8,

My questions are: Do I need to buy a USB Gecko in order to cheat (not hack) on a backup gamecube disc? It seems like the WiiRD requires a USB Gecko to function.

And how would I go about setting it up to run correctly? Am I missing any other hardware or software to do this?

Do you have a modchip installed?

Also, Ocarina is not supported for GC games right now, so to use WiiRd codes on GC games you'll need a USB Gecko.

Hey thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Currently dont have a modchip but im considering getting one. I would like to know if I got a chip and installed it, loaded up an original Action Replay from the main menu. Could I simply load Action replay codes at that point for the GC on my backups?

Does a modchip work once the Wii is in Gamecube mode? What about if it resets?

Would I be better off getting a USB gecko instead for cheating on my GC backups?

Any help is appreciated!

WiiRd/Gecko OS still won't work for GC backups unless you have a modchip installed.

Modchips should work at any point, as it is a hardware modification. However, as I don't have one myself, I can't say for sure. You should be able to load AR cheats for backups however if you do have a modchip installed. Search around using Google, you may find some results that way.

EDIT: Found this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/archive/index.php/t-53122.html) asking the same question. According to that page, you should be able to cheat on backups with GCOS.
