Sorry if this is the wrong section. If it is, please move it to the proper section. Anyways, I am interested in hacking codes so that I can contribute to the community. The problem is, I'm not all that smart. I'm not exactly dumb, but yeah. So I was wondering how difficult is it to hack codes. I know I need a USB Gecko and I will get one if it's not terribly difficult. So could someone give me some kind of clue on the difficulty?
I think with some basic computer science knowledge of Hexadecimal and knowing the Memory Map of the Wii you could create some basic codes no problem.
check out dexter0's guides here, they are a good starting point.
Ask as many questions as you like my friend, were willing to help those who want to learn.
Thanx for the quick reply Nuke. I just found dexter0's guide and all I have to say is, "Dammit!!" It looks complicated. Hopefully when I read through it, it will make sense. I'll read through it in a few minutes. I'm glad to hear that people here will be willing to help me if I need help. I hate forums that are mean to people when they ask questions!
BTW, is it possible to screw up my wii by using the USB Gecko, or is it perfectly safe?
It is safe. All it does is edit memory, it doesn't touch any files on your Wii at all. You can only brick your Wii by playing with Internal system files, and no USB Gecko software I write will do that.
this is a decent example http://members.cox.net/dexter0/WiiHacking/example1.shtml
feel free to ask any questions though about any of it.
Don't worry to much about the code types either, there actually more simpler than they look, and you most likely won't use many.

The basics are pretty easy to pick up just as long as you take the time to read through dexter0's excellent tutorials. If you follow along and and do what is shown in the examples you'll get the hang of it. More complicated codes do take some good knowledge and experience,I think I am now just understanding pointer codes but havent tried applying it yet,but I will when I find the time...and they are still pretty basic codes to make, just takes a little more time...
