Title: Black and white screen...
Post by: MilkY on November 22, 2008, 12:46:01 AM
I have a PAL wii (3.2E) with wiikey (1.9s firmware).

Normally when I want to play my NTSC i just load them like you would any other game, except when they contain updates...

So my problem is that when i try to launch Tales of symphonia dawn of af a new world (ntsc) or any other NTSC game through GeckoOS the game runs fine except everything is in black and white!!

Change your TV settings to 60hz as NTSC games run on a 60hz signal. If its set on 50hz, you will get the black and white coloured screen of gameplay, just force pal 60 on GeckoOs or change your settings in the Wii Settings to 60hz.

If games contain updates.. I would recommend you to take a look at Starfall - http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Starfall

This will allow you to disable the game update check in the WIi menu. then try to run Tales of Symphonia. If it does run.. then Gecko OS somehow can't launch it in PAL60 mode.. if it does not work even via Wii menu.. then the game requires NTSC output (Wii Music does that too) and it won't run in PAL modes.. Gecko OS has to switch your Wii to NTSC then making the picture black-and-white on a non-compatible PAL TV via S-Video or Composite or red-and-blakc via RGB cable.

this happened to me except with super smash bros brawl NTSC on a pal wii, whenver i forced 60hz mode i got a black screen, this happened all the time UNTIL i copied a 100% complete save file to my wii and 60hz mode worked properly with.

some games from japan/USA only work in 50hz mode and NTSC (black and white) and some only work in 60 hz mode and NTSC.

some work with all 3, some work with just NTSC so if thats the game with the game ur trying to play, u have no option but to buy one of those video converters if u don wanna play in black and white.

also some things wont come up in some modes, like for me, it doesnt show the wiimote safety screen in ssbb NTSC-U on my pal wii when i force pal 60 so try giving it time u may see a picture

for Brawl the trick is easy: open the game in NTSC or 50 Hz mode.. disable deflickering in the options.. and save..
leave.. and then the game works in 60 Hz.. works for quite a few games!
