Title: Gecko OS 1.7b Released
Post by: memorris on September 25, 2008, 04:26:44 PM
Gecko OS 1.7b Released
http://www.usbgecko.com/files/GeckoOS107b.zip (http://www.usbgecko.com/files/GeckoOS107b.zip)

Whats new:

1. No copy flag bit in saves now removed when copying no copy flag save games.

In previous version you could copy no copy saves but it left the no copy flag bit in the save so unless you used a Hex editor you couldn't copy the save game back to your Wii. Now this bit is removed when you copy the save over. Thanks Kenobi for this patch.

You need the rebooter to copy no copy saves to SD card, but of course you can copy them back without rebooter loaded just like any other standard save.

Many thanks,
Nuke

This news is from the USB Gecko blog

Thank you Nuke

Actually brkirch made the patch and pmed it to Nuke 3 hours before me.
So he's the one to thank !

I just worked on the problem too, and found the exact same solution, without knowing he already did it.

Thank you so much  :)

Is it possible to make a Gecko OS version that has the "Ocarina" option OFF by default?

Because I use Gecko OS instead of the Disc Channel and I launch my game directly without changing options....And codes are always activated :/

Thanks for the mention kenobi, although fortunately it wasn't a particularly difficult hack so I don't consider it a big deal.   :)
Although next time I create a patch I'll post it on the forum right before I send it to Nuke, so we can avoid recreating each other's work.  :P

Thanks to everyone involved for the new release!  Just wondering, but does anyone know of the progress for WiiRD/Ocarina in GameCube mode?  I noticed that Nuke mentioned it in this thread...

Thanks guys for this AWESOME version...

I had Modchip issue. My Backups didn't play on 1.06f1. I thought to update my modchip, but No. This Reboot option is AWESOME. Now I can play all my backups by simply rebooting...

Thanks again...

I hope that Nuke reconsiders, as GeckoOS/Ocarina is, by far, my favorite homebrew application.  Man, do I hate pirates.

So, anyway, you can only start the rebooter by pressing the B-button, right? So, after the system is down and restarted, you can use the rebooter, right? And after that you can practically hook everything, right?

For some reason codetype 86T2 keeps crashing on me. I could circumvent it by storing the value of the address in a separate Gecko Register, but I'd rather not.

EDIT: Codetype A6 does not work at all. In fact, the Gecko register compares just don't work.

Your problem might be that you're giving it a value when it's expecting an address, double check that you're using them right, anything inside [] is an address, if it isn't a valid address the game will crash instantly.

Yeah, I found out (or rather, a certain Jedi Knight told me) that 86T2 actually adds the base address to it. So, I just got an easier way to do certain things, and my code can now be optimized.

Thanks, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

EDIT:

For A6, it's both an error on my side as well as an error on GeckoOS. Apparently A6 is a greater than, and A4 is a lower than, instead of the other way around.

EDIT2:

I found that the Gecko Register starting adress is 80001808 instead of 80001804.

I found that the Gecko Register starting address is 80001808 instead of 80001804.

And keep in mind that starting address can change between Gecko OS versions, like earlier it was 80001804, then 08 and then 0C, so you should NOT point directly to register address inside your ASM as it can differ depending on the version and thus cause crashes on users who dont have same gecko OS version than you have.

Basically Ocarina is IN Gecko OS (to be more precise, Ocarina is Gecko OS stripped down of the interface and something more).
So, if you download Gecko OS 1.7b from www.usbgecko.com, you are downloading also ocarina.
It works the same way: you put the cheats file in the cheat folder on the SD and boot the game with Gecko OS.
Simple!

P.S. There is a post http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/index.php?topic=1493.0 (http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/index.php?topic=1493.0) called "why is ocarina been discontinued" which explain everything.

Sorry for the question, but please answer^^

I've downloaded Ocarina a few weeks ago, and I liked it...but I don't really know what Gecko OS is...  :-[
Sorry, but how can I "Hack" with it? Where can I download it? I've "every" time worked with Ocarina
(A few weeks  :P )

Please answer, because then I'll use Gecko OS^^

Also, to hack you need WiiRD and you need to buy a USB Gecko.

Also, for the Ocarina part of gecko OS, Do I have to run rebooter to do it? And do I use the ocarina Codemgr to put codes on gecko os? None of the codes that I am running are working.

Depending on the game that you are using, some codes may require the Rebooter.  However, I don't believe that most codes do.  Also, yes, the Wii Cheat Code Manager should be all that you need to create the .gct file.  When you export the .gct file to the SD card, the program will place it where it needs to be.

rebooter is in the newest GeckoOS which allows you to go back to the wii menu and load multi dol games like Red Steel and RE4 and SSBB (for wii vc games)

it only works if you have 3.3v1 and not 3.4 or 3.3v2 so if you have those you're screwed

Gecko OS is developed by Nuke. Noone of us knows if and when a new version comes out.

Quick question, when using rebooter I get this "Error Loading Menu" stuff, any fix to it?

Clel, what firmware are you currently using?  If you are using the newest firmware, then the Rebooter function of GeckoOS will not work.  However, I believe that this is being looked at.

If you wanted, you should be able to downgrade to a firmware that the Rebooter works on...

FINALLY!!! A Fix for The October 23d update!!! (http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=112385)

Yesterday , I used Gecko OS for playing Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
Gecko OS said me two times that there was no DVD.
All the other tryings were correct, but those two scared me.
My Wii is PAL with 3.3v1 and Wiikey

Don't worry.. reboot, eject the disc.. maybe clean it.. insert it and retry. The No DVD issue sometimes occurs!

Whenever I get "No DVD" I usually just retry...
I never got this more than twice in a row.
With the second or third try, I usually get the game running.

if u deleted The HBC by mistake and have copy on ur SD Card can u copy it back to the wii or do u have to re-install it again? reason why i ask because my zelda game not allowing to get into my items or my options screen (where u save ur game) so i'm just running around going nowhere.

I heard that you can't copy back the HBC channel after deleting it, so you have to install it again.
