Hi,
First, I'd like to apologise in case this has been resolved elsewhere, but I've been looking for a good while and I can't find a solution to my problem.
I have a Japanese Wii 3.3j with D2PRO9, Homebrew Channel and Gecko OS 1.07 and 1.06 color fix. My television is a Toshiba Wide Bazooka 28wb66.
My problem is that when trying to load PAL games through Gecko OS, the following happens:
No forced format, PAL50 or PAL60: Game loads, but with jumping screen, black and white. Unplayable.
Forced NTSC: Solid green screen.
VISTV Patch doesn't change anything.
For what I have read in the forums, I'm guessing that my problem is that my TV simply can't run PAL games. However, I can run Soul Calibur Legends PAL and Top Spin 3 PAL with no problem.
Any idea on how to solve these problems?
Thanks in advance.
By the way, 2 things I forgot to mention in my last post:
- NTSC USA games work perfectly.
- And thanks for creating GeckoOS! At the very least, I can plat USA games as I just mentioned :)
Please let me know if there are any other details you need.
Thanks.
are you using the RGB cable?
Hi Nuke,
Thank you very much for your quick answer.
I think I was confused about my cables, but I have had a good Wikipedia session and I think I have the answer now.
I have the cable that came with the Wii (a RCA cable), which I thought was RGB, but I may have been wrong; it seems to be a composite cable.
I believe that the RGB cable you talk about it’s a SCART cable. Sadly, my TV does not have a SCART plug, only RCA and S-Video female jacks. There are a few more RCA jacks apart form the video and audio ones, but I have no idea what are they for (they are both black, with Japanese labels).
I'm guessing that in this case, I'm out of luck and won't be able to play Pal games (I guess that the 2 games I played are somehow multiregion; by the way, I can run those games without using Gecko OS).
Thanks again!
Standard RCA leads still should work ok if you force the video mode. This is what I use.
Could you list the PAL games that don't work
So far, I have had problems with Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and WarioWare: Smooth Moves. The other 2 PAL games I tried didn't need to be loaded using Gecko OS.
Also, using the rebooter would load the game with b&w jumping screen, I don't know if this is any help.
I also used Gecko Os to load Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 USA version, which worked perfectly.
I can try again with specific settings and whichever version of Gecko OS you want again if you want.
Thank you very much for looking into this :)
By the way, I don't know if this has been covered anywhere before or it's related in any way to my problem, but I usually get a "Error: No DVD" message when I try to run any game (I believe it could be any kind of error regardless of the output message); after I re-try a few times, the problem solves by itself. I usually need for the DVD slot to stop blinking blue, but sometime that doesn't work either, sometimes it works while it blinks. Let me know if you want me to open a new thread for this if you want to investigate separately.
Hi,
First, i'm french so i'm sorry if my english isn't perfect.
I have a French wii, 3.2e without modchip and with Homebrew Channel 0.8 and Gecko OS 1.07. I have the composite cable (sent with the wii). My TV doesn't support PAL 60hz and NTSC mode.
I have the same problem that Ninpuukamui but with a wii PAL. I bought the game One Piece Unlimited Adventure, the US Version, and i can't play it. When i don't change any option, my screen is black and white and jumping. When i force PAL50 and launch the game, my screen is green and i can't do anything, only turn off my wii.
The problem comes from my TV, because i tried on a recent TV and all works, but i would like not to change TV. I don't understand why i can't force PAL50.
Thanks for your help, sorry if you don't understand my english.

Hello Nuke,
I have seen you have released a new update to 1.07; is this problem something that may be fixed with it? Would you like us to give it a go?
Thanks!

A little UP, please:(:(
Thanks
Hi..
well.. Force PAL50 unfortunately breaks compatibility in some circumstances.. you can always try the new Gecko OS 1.07 and try to start an import game using the rebooter option. If the game doesn't start there it's most likely not compatible with PAL50 mode - or generally doesn't work as an import.
You can always try to check the lists at http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php/Wii_Region_Patcher_Compatibility_List#Compatibility - these are not 100% accurate as Gecko OS has higher compatibility than modchips in most cases - this list is just for modded Wiis. However, it's worth checking out!
Thanks Link,
Sorry to reply to you late but i didn't know this forum.
I tried the rebooter option and my screen is like in NTSC Mode, so, as i say to Nuke in a mail, i think i'll change my TV, in the lists it says that the game "starts with console language changed to english with both 50/60Hz (wiikey 1.9s/wii 3.2E) but it hangs up after menu ". I don't really understand "hangs up" but i think the compatibility is not pefect in PAL50 Mode.
Thanks again for your answer,
All the best,
Kijushi
I have same problem.
"Gottlieb Pinball Classics"(PAL) on JAP Wii with RGB/RCA, doesn't work.
Game ID: RQSP6M
Reboot with RF Hook, jumping black screen with correct sound.(Wiimote worked, but screen displayed nothing)
Load with Force PAL60, same as rebooting with RF.
Load with Force PAL50, black screen with correct sound.
Load with Force NTSC, green screen, and system hanged up.
VID Patch option caused nothing. Same as above result.
All above booting with RGB cable.
May I test with RCA cable?
Like kijushi, My mother language is not English. I am from China, so...
I think,Ninpuukamui, ur problem is not related to the TV,since u surely can run Soul Calibur Legends PAL and Top Spin 3 PAL with no problem.
Maybe this can help u:
Gecko os -> config menu ->force language "English" and force NTSC
I think the language is the main reason to cause the problem.
