What the heck is going on? Works for me, not for friend.

Hello again,

If you followed my questions, or answered them, then you know I have 4.3U, Indiana Pwns, Gecko, and cheat codes for Wii Play Tanks! and it works like a charm at home.  I go to my pals, and it doesn't work.  Okay, I tried all suggestions and finally, I temporarily relocated his wireless access point so his Wii console could update to 4.3U.

Since it's at 4.3U latest, and so is mine, it should work exactly the same, right?  WRONG!

I use the same indiana pwns file, the same SD card, it's all the same!  The procedure is the same! Except that when the game starts, the cheats don't work.

One other clue that may help someone out there figure this out .. the nunchuk works during indiana pwns, but after gecko launches Wii Play, the nunchuk is dead.

The nunchuk works fine if Wii Play is run normally.

Again, this exact setup, SD card, disc, etc. works great on mine, but does not work on friends.  Codes are 'applied' but do not work in the game, and nunchuk is dead.  His box is on latest 4.3U, as is mine.

If you have any idea what the heck is up with this, or if you need more information to help figure this out, let me know, it's got me walking around with big question marks floating over my head.

Thank you again .. whatever this is, I'm guessing it's why I've been asking about other ways to deal with 4.2U.  But now he's up to 4.3U, whatever the problem ultimatly is, it's probably whatever has been causing the previous grief.

I don't really know why it would work for you, and not for him, but some questions...

What version of Gecko are you using?  Is he using the same version?

Have you tried to run Gecko through the Homebrew Channel?

Have you tried to run Gecko through the Smash Stack?

Have you tried to run Gecko through Yu-Gi-Vah (unofficial port of Yu-Gi-OWNED!)?

Are you using the exact same GCT file that works for you?  If not, are you sure that you are creating the file correctly?

Have you tried with different sets of codes?  Sometimes certain codes applied together can cause a black screen, or something like that.

Also, perhaps there are two versions of Wii Play?  Use this simple guide for the Twilight Hack to determine if Nintendo might have made another version...

http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/Twilight_Hack#Usage_and_Installation

QuoteThe easiest way to check your version is to compare the text string which is on the inner circle of the data surface with the ones below.

Basically, there are two NTSC copies of Twilight Princess.  They are most commonly referred to as "0A-0" and "0A-2."  With Ocarina/GeckoOS/Gecko, "0A-0" codes will not normally work on "0A-2" versions of the game (without some kind of "Must be on for 0A-2" code), and vice versa.  Perhaps another version of Wii Play was released (although I doubt it)?

If the string is the same on both discs, then the game is the same.

I am using the same Wii-Play disc, the same SD card with Gecko.  I've tried two previous versions of Gecko with the same result.

Literally, the only difference I can see is that we have some different channels on our boxes .. the standard differences you would expect to find between any two boxes.

I don't have Smash Bros, so not really an option.

The only thing I can think to do at this point is to wipe out all the saved data on his Wii to see if that does the trick, but I don't think I'm going to be able to convince him that it's a good idea and will work.

Heck, I can't convince myself that it would work.

As I said previously, it says it finds the codes on the SD, and applies them.  They just don't operate as they do on my box.  Go figgure.

Thanks for the response .. I hope I gave you the information you need to go "WTF?" as I have been doing.

Oh, I almost forgot.  The twist.  During the playing of Indiana Jones, the nunchuck works fine, but after Gecko boots and loads Wii Play, the nunchuck is dead.  When I use my wireless chucks, there is a light that shows it's getting power from the WiiMote, and that light goes out.  I mean, it turns the nunchuck off in the WiiMote.  ????  I hope that helps spark an "AHA!" somewhere.

Update : Thinking that perhaps something already in the Wii memory might be causing this issue, we saved off stuff he wanted to keep and formatted the Wii memory and tried it again.  Same thing.  No codes worked and dead nunchucks.
