How to make a wii mode bootable gecko dvd?

Sorry if I'm asking a noob question, but I see a GC mode dvd that boots gecko available for download but not a WII mode one. When I use the GC mode dvd, I can't launch a wii game. I assume this is normal for GC mode.

Reading Nuke's gecko guide I see that it is recommended to install the homebrew channel. The homebrew channel looks great, but I do not want to follow this path as I don't want anything to install on my wii, in case it is detected or breaks in the future.

I understand that a wii mode dvd iso would not be available for download because normally it would contain copyrighted data from the game that main.dol was injected in to.

Recently I saw bushing release a template dvd which didn't contain any copyrighted code and I wondered if it would be possible to make an auto-booting wii dvd for gecko using this?

I tried to do this using regionfrii and trucha but my attempts failed and I thought someone smarter than me would be able to make it work?

I have a modded PAL machine with an old firmware which can use trucha discs and so I think this could work.

Can anyone help with this or am I being really stupid here?

Thanks.
