im new here but please dont attack me,
I have recently learned that the October 23 update killed alot of apps but not all of them
this including Gecko Os 1.07b, i do know that the rebooter no longer works, therefore u cant activate regionfree mode...
But ive seen in older versions of Gecko Os (1.06), that u can just insert an import game, boot the game and would work fine...
but was this feature included in Gecko Os 1.07b, and since my wii was manually updated by nintendo (secretly with wii conect 24) i cant test this myself, nor do i own a Import...yet
Im planning 2 import the new cross over game on Wii japan only
TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM
but i would like to know if my wii still has hope...2 play video games
please answer my Question....
Can Gecko Os 1.07b still play import games without using rebooter with the October 23 update?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that imported games should still work on all firmwares.

Truegamer

i need 2 here it from someone who knows that it does or doesnt work, on the latest Wii firmware (october 23)

I installed the firmware update as-is and I've had no problems running the two Japanese Wii games I have.  I have 3.3E (I have a PAL Wii -- note the firmware version number doesn't change as a result of applying the update).  The only thing you need to note is that updating the Homebrew Channel will disable the ability to run boot.elf files, so you'll need to get the latest download of GeckoOS 1.07b and use the boot.dol file to run it.

Just in case you're running GeckoOS via Twilight Hack, I would install the HBC before upgrading as this is apparently disabled and there's been no fix released from the Homebrew devs yet.

I'm hoping the next release (2.00) will have improved import Gamecube support so I can play Midway Arcade Treasures 2 again, myself!

Truegamer

is the 3.3E update the same as the 3.3U update?
cause if it is then hello Tatsunoko vs Capcom

sean.aaron

Should be the same.

Of course 3.4 was released today; the HBC is intact, but no clue if GeckoOS is still in the frame.

I'm thinking of putting it on tomorrow, so I'll let you know the score.

Truegamer

i heard 3.4 update removes the homebrew channel completly...
so im gonna stick with 3.3u for now
can u make a video of ur imports working on 3.4...?

sean.aaron

Sadly no video from me.

I won a Japanese Wii on auction, so I'll get this upgrade installed tonight.

According to reports it does not remove the HBC if you have it installed.  It does block the Twilight Hack, remove pirate WiiWare and VC Channels and will apparently enable Nintendo to upgrade your system firmware without your approval in future.  It also greatly increases read-write speed to SD card, which is a good incentive for me.

Truegamer

Im not gonna take that risk and update my wii to 3.4
cause its just too risky that homebrew wont work anymore...
so im gonna go and try my import on 3.3u
i pray it works correctly...

Well, I slapped on 3.4 and HBC is still there and GeckoOS boots fine.  Played some Wii Shanghai and cleared a couple of boards.

Also backed up all my WiiWare and VC content to SD card, which normally would take me upwards of half an hour; this time less than five minutes.  Anything under 100 blocks takes less than 10 seconds; my 100+ and 300+ stuff was all well under a minute.  Brilliant!  Hopefully the ability to launch content from SD is coming soon as it will be a godsend.
